GAME NOTES
  • Trinity Christian scored its 11 runs on 12 hits and committed five errors while Mid-America Christian scored its 10 runs on seven hits and made two miscues.
  • Mid-America Christian pushed across the first run when Noel McGarry-Doyle ripped a two-out triple in the top of the first before coming across on a wild pitch to make it a 1-0 game.
  • In the top of the third, the Evangels gained a huge lead. After Ryan Reed was hit by a pitch to open the inning, Carlos Medina moved him over to second on a sac bunt. Reed moved over to third on a wild pitch, but quickly found himself at home when the catcher threw wide of third trying to get him out, setting the score to 2-0.
  • Later in the inning, Yan Ely Adames tied another MACU home run record after McGarry-Doyle and Andrew Enwiya drew walks as he blasted a no-doubt three-run homer over the left-center field fence for his 14th of the season, swelling the Evangels advantage to 5-0.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Trinity Christian was finally able to get to MACU starter Dylan Lyddon by smashing four straight singles before Hunter Slaats hit a sac fly to center to push across the Trolls' third run of the inning to cut it to a 5-3 game.
  • Trinity Christian still threatened in the fourth inning by loading the bases with one out, but reliever Levi Mobley was able to get out of it by inducing a strikeout before getting Oliver Carmona to popout to Reed in shallow right field to end the threat.
  • The Evangels got one of the runs back almost immediately in the top of the fifth when McGarry-Doyle led off with a double to left, advanced to third when the ball slipped out of the left fielder's hand trying to get the ball in and Enwiya brought him home on a deep sac fly to center, making it a 6-3 game.
  • In the top of the seventh, MACU gained its largest lead of the ballgame as the first five batters reached on a Medina double, a McGarry-Doyle single, an Enwiya RBI single, an Adames walk and a Cole Fuecker RBI infield single, setting the score to 8-3. Later in the inning, two more runs came across as Enwiya scored on a wild pitch before Adames came in right behind him on an errant throw back to the plate, stretching the MACU edge to 10-3.
  • In the top of the eighth, McGarry-Doyle narrowly missed hitting for the cycle when he launched a ball down the right field line, but the ball hooked just a bit to the right for a foul ball before eventually striking out to end the frame.
  • The resilient Trinity Christian didn't go down without a fight as the Trolls stormed back against the Evangels bullpen over the final two innings, scoring eight runs over the final two frames to eventually pull off a walk-off 11-10 win on Olver Carmona's RBI bunt single to Cruz Perez.
  • Even though the Evangels suffered the loss, due to picking up the 6-3 win over Southwestern Christian earlier in the day, MACU had already locked up its spot in the NCCAA World Series championship. If MACU won, it would have faced Southwestern Christian in a potential double-elimination starting at noon on Tuesday. However, MACU will now play the winner of SCU/Trinity Christian in a winner-take-all championship game at 3:30 p.m.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle led the MACU hitting efforts by finishing just a homer away from the cycle, slashing 3-for-4 with a walk and scored four runs, tying the fourth-most runs scored in a single game while his fifth triple of the year broke the MACU NAIA Era (2008-present) single-season record, surpassing Nathan Milton (2009) and teammate Isaiah Leon (2022) for the top spot.
  • Yan Ely Adames also found himself at the top of the MACU single-season record book as well with his third inning home run, finishing 1-for-4 with three RBIs. His 14th long ball of the year moved him in a tie with Adrian Bravo-Carmona (2010) for the most homers in a single-season after breaking the career home runs record earlier in the season.
  • Even though the MACU pitching staff struggled as a whole, the Evangels got a sensational performance out of the pen from freshman pitcher Levi Mobley. Over 3.2 innings, Mobley only allowed one hit and two walks while tying a career-high four strikeouts.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will be playing for all the marbles on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. as the Evangels will compete in their first ever NCCAA World Series Championship game against the winner of Southwestern Christian/Trinity Christian inside the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy.
