GAME NOTES
- Wayland Baptist scored its 11 runs on 12 hits and committed an error while the Evangels scored their two runs on six hits and made two miscues.
- Both teams struggled to get any sort of offense going through the first five innings, but Wayland Baptist did muster a pair of threats in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the third, an error, a hit-by-pitch and a single loaded the bases with two outs, but MACU starter Cameron Brown was able to get Delvis Claudio to strike out to get out of the jam. Brown ended up walking three of the first four batters he faced in the top of the fourth to spell trouble, but Brown once again got out of it with a strikeout of Caleb Rozier and got Hayden Ingram to fly out to left to end the frame.
- After being retired in-order their first time through the lineup, the Evangels were finally able to get to WBU starter Ty Maxwell right away in the bottom of the fourth as a Ryan Reed lead-off single and an Andrew Enwiya double to right-center put a pair in scoring position before Noel McGarry-Doyle pushed a single through the left side to give MACU its only lead of the ballgame at 1-0.
- After Brown spoiled a few scoring opportunities earlier, Wayland Baptist was able to blow the game open in the top of the sixth. After three of the first four batters reached on a single, double and walk, Hayden Ingram gave the Pioneers the lead with a two-RBI single to right-center to give WBU the first and final lead.
- In the very next at-bat, Arturo Disla gave Wayland the only insurance it would need with a three-run homer over the left field fence to set the score to 5-1.
- The Pioneers added four more runs in the top of the seventh to all but put the game out of reach with an Ingram infield single, a Disla RBI groundout and a Jake Green two-RBI double, bringing it to a 9-1 game.
- MACU was able to get one more run in the bottom of the sixth as a McGarry-Doyle infield single brought home Adan Federico, but the Evangels were unable to score any more to come back before falling by a final score of 11-2.
- Cameron Brown suffered the loss for MACU on the mound, allowing five runs, all earned on six hits with five walks and seven strikeouts.
- Of MACU's six hits, Noel McGarry-Doyle was the only Evangel to record multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
- Andrew Enwiya finished 1-for-4 from the plate as his double was the only extra-base hit for the Evangels on the evening.
- With the defeat, Mid-America Christian has lost three of its four meetings to the Pioneers during the 2023 regular season and postseason.
- The loss moved the Evangels into the loser's bracket where they'd need to face Southwestern Christian in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon if MACU was to keep its tournament hopes alive.

GAME NOTES
- Southwestern Christian scored its 16 runs on 18 hits while Mid-America Christian plated six runs on 10 hits with a pair of errors.
- The Evangels found themselves in a deep hole through the first two innings as the first three SCU runs came across on a pair of Jhors Gomez RBIs on a double and a bases-loaded walk and a Dario Paredes RBI single in the first before Paredes all but put the game out of reach with a grand slam to left to make it a 7-0 game.
- In the top of the third, Andrew Enwiya was able to put MACU on the board with a two-out, two-run blast to left-center, cutting the deficit to 7-2.
- However, the Evangels immediately gave those runs up in the bottom of the third on a two-RBI single to center by Draike Sparks before he came across to score on a throwing error by Yan Ely Adames following a passed ball at the plate that already scored one run, extending the Eagles' edge to 11-2.
- MACU rattled off three unanswered runs through the fourth and fifth innings as Adames made up for the error with a solo shot to left-center for his team-leading 12th home run of the season before Tylor Richey pitched in with an RBI single to center to score German Sepulveda.
- In the top of the fifth, Noel McGarry-Doyle led off the frame with a solo blast to left-center, trimming the deficit to 11-5.
- After giving up a run in the bottom of the fifth, Adames got the run back for MACU after hitting an RBI single through the right side in the top of the seventh to bring it back to a six-run deficit at 12-6. The Evangels were still boasting a big threat with runners at first and second with just one out after the Adames base knock, but SCU starter Gabriel Figueroa rang up Sepulveda and Adan Federico to end the threat.
- The Eagles scored four unanswered runs through the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings as a two-run Sparks homer walked off the game at 16-6 and end MACU's SAC Tournament run.
- MACU ace Isaac Baez suffered the loss on the mound after a tough outing, allowing seven earned runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts over two innings of work.
- Andrew Enwiya helped lead the MACU offensive efforts with his two-RBI homer, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. His 11th dinger of the season put him in MACU's single-season record book, moving into a four-way tie for eighth in the NAIA Era for most homers hit in a season.
- Noel McGarry-Doyle also moved into the same spot in the NAIA Era record book as his seventh-inning dinger was his 11th of the year. McGarry-Doyle finished the day 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
- While Enwiya and McGarry-Doyle reached new spots in the NAIA Era single-season record book, Yan Ely Adames also continued his ascent by not only tying his own career-high 12th homer season, but also moving into a five-way tie for the third most single-season homers. Adames needs just one more to match Enwiya's second-best mark set last year and two more dingers to tie Adrian Bravo-Carmona's 2010 record mark. Adames finished the contest batting 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
- After suffering an elbow injury on Feb. 25 against Southwestern (Kan.), MACU's ace coming into the year Zane Robeaux made his first appearance since that injury, allowing two earned runs on a hit and a walk over 0.2 innings of work.
- The loss put MACU and Southwestern Christian even at 2-2 during the 2023 campaign as the Evangels saw their SAC Tournament run come to an end.
UP NEXT
- Mid-America Christian will now start making its preparations for postseason play as the Evangels will likely compete at the NCCAA World Series in Kansas City from May 19-23.
