ATLANTA – The Mid-America Christian women's basketball program isn't just one of the strongest on the court in the NAIA, but also one of the tops academically as the Evangels were named to the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll on Tuesday.
The Evangels finished the 2022-23 academic year with the 12th-highest grade-point average amongst NAIA institutions, amassing a 3.716 cumulative GPA. On-top of earning both NAIA and NCCAA Scholar Team honors, MACU also had three standouts earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete accolades and seven garner NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors.
While Mid-America Christian excelled in the classroom, the Evangels carried their excellence onto the hardwood as well as the team wrapped up the season with a 23-7 overall record and finished second in the highly-competitive Sooner Athletic Conference with a 17-5 league mark while also earning its third straight bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
Overall, the MACU women's basketball program was the only institution from the state of Oklahoma in any division (Division I, II, III, NAIA or two-year) to be named to its respective academic Top 25 list. The Evangels were also just one of two programs from the SAC to earn the WBCA honor with John Brown coming in sixth (3.757).
