OKLAHOMA CITY – Competing for the first time since 2010, the MACU cross country team under first year head coach Merritt Suenram makes its return to course as the Evangels will open the 2023 campaign at the 75th Annual J.K. Gold Classic hosted at the Clapp Cross Country Course in Wichita, Kansas.
The men's cross country team will be competing in a 6000-meter race slated for an 8:25 a.m. start time.
The Evangels will be headlined by freshman Mason Baker. The Westmoore High School product was a two-time OSHAA State Championship qualifier, winning the Regional Championship in 2022 and turned in a 24th-place finish with a time of 16:28.76 at the OSSAA 6A State Championship.
Running alongside Mason will be his twin brother, Ryland Baker, who is expected to make an impact with the team this season.
Coach Suenram believes Southmoore standout Ethan Hillis will be one of the top runners for the Evangels in the 2023 season and had good things to say about freshman Jason McKamie, who will be competing in his first ever competitive cross country race after being a boys' volleyball standout on the homeschool club scene.
