MATCH SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian (7-0) opened the contest with an immediate lead out of the gate as a first-minute right-side corner kick by Bruna Faleiro setup Jasie Eischen on a one-bouncer into the box as she fired a 12-yarder from the right side inside the left post to give the Evangels the 1-0 advantage.
  • Arizona Christian (4-2-1) had its first chance at an equalizer in the fourth minute following a MACU foul. After a free kick from 35-yards out on the right side bounced around near the left post, MACU goalkeeper Rachel Torres made a great save on a header by ACU's Justyne Underwood before Daniela Paez made a very rare position player save by backing up Torres in the middle of the box, deflecting Cadence Peroff's follow-up off the rebound to keep the Firestorm off the board.
  • Just four minutes later, ACU had another golden opportunity at an equalizer when a foul inside the 18-yard box off a Firestorm corner setup Arizona Christian's Noemie Antoine with a penalty kick. However, once again, Torres came up with a massive save, knocking down Antoine's shot attempt toward the top left to keep it a 1-nil Evangels advantage.
  • In the 16th minute, the Evangels captured a two-score lead off of a Firestorm miscue. On Bruna Faleiro's well-placed right-side corner, Annika Gerdau crashed into the middle of the six-yard box as the corner deflected off two Firestorm defenders and into the back of the net for an own goal, setting the score to 2-0.
  • At the top of the 33rd minute, MACU pushed across its most impressive goal of the day. Following an Alissa Taylor left-side corner that was briefly headed out by the ACU defense, Jasmine Morales flicked the clearance back out to Taylor on the outside of the 18-yard box as she floated a beautiful 28-yarder that the leaping keeper was able to get a hand on, but not enough to completely come up with the save as the deflection went off the inside right post and into the back of the net, sending MACU into the half with the 3-nil lead.
  • On two different occasions in the second half, Annika Gerdau just barely missed her second goal of the season. In the 53rd minute, Gerdau had a nine-yard strike from the left side of the box ping off the crossbar before having another go off the bar in the 58th minute when she floated a 28-yarder off the run from the left side as it deflected off the top side of the right-side crossbar.
  • In the 55th minute, the Evangels got a penalty kick opportunity of their own and were able to capitalize. After Faleiro was shoved to the ground in the box off a deep MACU free kick, Kadin Stinson was assigned with taking the penalty and put a well-placed shot into the right side, capping off the MACU scoring at 4-nil.
MATCH NOTES
  • Even though Mid-America Christian thoroughly controlled the scoring differential, the Evangels only held a marginal lead in the shot category as MACU outshot Arizona Christian 19-17 with a 9-6 edge in shots on-goal.
  • MACU held a slight 7-5 edge in corner kicks, but the Evangels were very effective on their corners by netting three of their four scores off of corners in the first half.
  • Annika Gerdau led the MACU attack with a team-high four shots while Kadin Stinson and Jasmine Morales attempted three shots apiece.
  • The goals scored by Jasie Eischen, Alissa Taylor and Kadin Stinson were all their first goals of the season while Bruna Faleiro's assist on Eischen's game-winner tied her with the team-lead with her third of the season. The assist by Jasmine Morales on Taylor's score marked her first assist of the year for her ninth point.
  • Despite allowing a season-high 17 shot attempts, the MACU defense pitched its fifth clean sheet of the season behind a full-team defensive effort.
  • Rachel Torres improved to 7-0 in-goal for MACU after coming away with three saves in 73 minutes of action, earning the combined shutout with Makayla Farquharson who pitched in two saves in 18 minutes of play.
  • With the win, MACU improved to 3-0 all-time against Arizona Christian while earning their second-straight 4-0 win over the Firestorm after turning in the same result at the Dill Soccer Field on Oct. 8, 2020.
