Women’s Soccer Barrages Central Christian for 5-0 Win in SAC Opener

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The MACU women's soccer team peppered the Central Christian goal in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday night as the Evangels fired 53 shots, 31 of which were on-goal to come away with a 5-0 victory.

SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian (8-1, 1-0 SAC) had many opportunities through the first 22 minutes, peppering 12 shots with four on-goal, but Central Christian (0-7-1, 0-1 SAC) goalkeeper Kaitlyn Beckman made four saves to keep the Evangels off the board.
  • In the 24th minute, the Evangels were finally able to find the back of the net. Off a left side Annika Gerdau corner kick, the free ball found the foot of Francesca Martella on the left side of the box, sliding a 10-yarder inside the right post to make it a 1-0 MACU lead.
  • Three minutes later, the Evangels added to it on their next on-target try. On the play, Jasie Eischen delivered a sensational long ball to Deborah Silveira on the right side, getting past the CCCK defense. With a one-on-one with the keeper, Silveira got a cross to the left side past Beckman trying to get to the point of attack, allowing Kadin Stinson to tap in a completely empty net for the 2-nil score.
  • At the 38:29 mark, freshman midfielder Allana Porto made her mark with her first career Evangels goal. During the sequence, Stinson delivered a long ball from midfield to Silveira breaking wide open down the right side. From the right baseline, Silveira found Porto in the middle of the penalty box. From 15-yards out, Porto fired a shot into the top left corner to send MACU into the half with a 3-0 advantage.
  • MACU netted its fourth goal during the 57th minute in the second half. After Bruna Faleiro had a ball taken away by CCCK's Arleanna Palomares, Faleiro won the ball back in the right corner before delivering a cross to Madison Chavez breaking in toward the right post. Chavez tapped a seven-yarder just inside the post before the keeper could get to it to set the score to 4-nil.
  • Despite all of MACU's on-target attempts in the match, the Evangels scored their fifth goal in an unconventional way. Breaking down the right sideline, Faleiro tried to deliver another connection to Chavez sprinting in toward the middle of the box, but the pass was redirected into the back of the net by a Tigers defender, ultimately sealing the 5-0 result.
MATCH NOTES
  • Overall, Mid-America Christian held an overwhelming 53-5 shot advantage over Central Christian with an astounding 31-1 difference in shots on-goal.
  • Kadin Stinson notched her first three-point game of the season for the Evangels, scoring a goal and dishing out an assist while attempting five shots, putting four shots on-goal.
  • An All-SAC honoree a season ago, senior midfielder Francesca Martella after having so many close calls this season finally found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, also going down as a game-winner for the third in her two-year MACU career.
  • The goal for Allana Porto marked her first career Evangels goal and becoming the 16th different Evangel to net a score this season.
  • Madison Chavez moved into a tie for the team-lead with her fifth goal of the season while overtaking the team's points lead with 13. Chavez was one of MACU's offensive leaders for the match, attempting seven shots and putting six on-frame. Gladis Avalos also finished with seven shot attempts while placing four on-target.
  • Deborah Silveira not only recorded her first career assist in the match, but she also finished with two, becoming just the second Evangels player to record a pair of assists in a match this season, joining Bruna Faleiro who tallied two in the 9-0 win over McPherson (Kan.) on Sept. 4.
  • Rachel Torres and Makayla Farquharson earned their third combined shutout of the season and Torres improved to 8-1 in-goal after recording a save in 57 minutes of work. Farquahrson did not face a shot in 33 minutes of play.
  • With the win, Mid-America Christian notched its eighth straight win against Central Christian while also recording its second straight 5-nil victory after posting the same result at the Dill Soccer Field on Oct. 1, 2022.
