Men’s Basketball Tackles Texas Wesleyan to Close Out Four-Game Home Stand, Ready for Four-Game Road Trip

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU men's basketball team will look to finish its four-game home stand on a high note as the Evangels take on Texas Wesleyan at 7:45 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Thursday night before heading to Chickasha on Saturday to start a four-game road trip with Science & Arts for a 3:45 p.m. tip inside the USAO Fieldhouse.

    • Mid-America Christian put together an offensive clinic in its 99-77 win over Southwestern Christian on Monday. In the victory, the Evangels shot 36-for-60 (60 percent) from the field and 18-of-33 (54.5 percent) from the free throw line.
    • MACU set a pair of NAIA Era (2007-present) record marks in the victory as the 32 assists marked a three-way tie for the top mark in the single-game book while the 18 made three-pointers matched the second-most in a game.
    • For the first time in the NAIA Era, the Evangels had three different players make at least five three-pointers in a single game as Conner Calavan shot a perfect 6-for-6, Mikel Henderson went 5-of-8 and Eddie Smith knocked down 5-of-10.
    • During MACU's nine-game win streak, the Evangels have found their offensive game by averaging 82.1 ppg on a 49.5 percent shooting clip while knocking down 41.1 percent from three-point range. In the Evangels' 11 previous games, MACU averaged just 72.6 ppg on 41.8 percent shooting while converting on 30.9 percent of its threes.

    • After getting off to a 4-12 start to the season, Texas Wesleyan has found its stride in the second half of Sooner Athletic Conference play as the Rams enter Thursday night's contest as winners of four-straight, coming off a 65-61 home win over Science & Arts inside the Sid Richardson Center on Monday night.
    • While the Rams have struggled offensively this season, ranking second-to-last in scoring offense (69.5 ppg), TWU has been very good from the three-point arc and the free throw line, sitting third in the SAC from downtown (37.5 percent) and are tied for first in free throw percentage (75.1).
    • A bulk of TWU's offense runs through junior guard Adetokunbo Bakare and senior forward Kristian Lafayette. Bakare comes into the contest ranked sixth in the SAC in scoring (17.4 ppg) while shooting the fourth-best three-point rate (44.3 percent) in the league. Meanwhile, Lafayette has been an efficient big for TWU, averaging 13.6 ppg on a 47.9 percent average while leading the conference in rebounding (8.1 rpg).
