No. 15 Men’s Soccer to Battle Oklahoma City for Top Spot in SAC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Much like the women's contest, first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference will be at-stake at the Dill Soccer Field on Tuesday night as No. 15 Men's Soccer will face fellow conference co-leader Oklahoma City for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

At halftime of the women's game, Mid-America Christian will be recognizing its reserve team that won the 2024 SAC Reserve Men's Soccer Tournament at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas last Friday.

  • Team Notes:
    • Facing off against then-SAC leader and undefeated John Brown, Mid-America Christian put together an all-around dominant performance, especially in the second half as the Evangels netted three goals in the second stanza to run away with a 3-0 victory.
    • Going up against one of the top scoring offenses in the SAC, the Evangels defense completely shut down John Brown, holding the Golden Eagles to only seven shots in which just two were on-goal.
    • Enzo Nogue and Federico Palacios continued to be goal-scoring machines for the Evangels as the pair netted their seventh and fifth goals of the season, combining to net 12 of MACU's 25 goals so far this year. Sophomore forward Nicolas Cervantes also netted his first career goal on the varsity roster on a penalty kick in the 58th minute.
    • Through four conference matches, Mid-America Christian owns by far and away the best goal differential in the SAC as the Evangels are tied with John Brown with the most goals scored (12) while owning the fewest goals allowed (2) for a plus-10 goal differential. Oklahoma City owns the next-best goal differential with nine goals scored to three goals allowed for a plus-six difference.
    • Following MACU's 3-0 win over John Brown and OCU battling Wayland Baptist to a 1-1 draw last Tuesday, the two teams moved into a tie for first in the SAC standings at 10 points apiece with both programs holding a 3-0-1 league mark, sitting a single point ahead of John Brown (3-1).

      • 8-0-2 W-L, 0.51 GAA, 17 Saves, .773 SV%, 3 SHO
  • Team Notes:
    • After winning its first three SAC matches, Oklahoma City faced a stiff test from Wayland Baptist at home last weeks as the Stars and Pioneers battled out a 1-1 draw at Brian Harvey Field. The Stars pushed across the opening goal from Thomas Brulay before one of the league's leading scorers in Jamol Williams tied it up in the 37th minute.
    • While Oklahoma City scored a slew of goals during non-conference play, netting 36 goals for a 6.0 goals per game average, the Stars have been slowed down since starting SAC play, netting just nine goals (2.25 per game), which ranks as the fourth-most in the league. However, the Stars continue to remain stout on the defensive end as OCU is one of just two teams in the conference that has allowed less than five goals in league play with only MACU allowing fewer at two.
    • Impressively, OCU has had six different players crack into double-digit scoring, headlined by the league's second-leading scorer in senior Marco Alongi, who has netted 10 goals for 21 points. On the defensive side, junior keeper Alexis Bertrand has been one of the best goalkeepers in the conference so far this year, allowing just a 0.51 goals allowed average with a .773 save percentage.
    • Despite Oklahoma City owning a strong lead in the all-time series, Mid-America Christian has fared much better in the series since 2018 as the Evangels are 3-0-3 against the Stars in that time frame. In their last meeting at Brian Harvey Field on Oct. 27 last season, MACU defensively dominated the Stars, holding OCU to only four shots with just one being on-goal before the Evangels broke through on Kolby Godbolt's game winner in the 81st minute to secure the 1-0 road victory.
