Bakers Connect On-Winner, Women’s Soccer Moves to Top of SAC with 1-0 Win over Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – On a cool, blustery evening at the Dill Soccer Field on Tuesday night, the Baker sisters connected on the game-winning goal once again as Brae Baker booted in the winning shot in the 79th minute to propel MACU Women's Soccer to a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma City.

SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Both teams struggled to find quality chances in the opening half as Mid-America Christian (9-2-2, 4-1 SAC) had the first high quality chance in the ninth minute when a failed clearance found the foot of a wide-open Francesca Martella in the midfield. She immediately lasered a 25-yard strike that pinged off the bottom of the crossbar before being safely cleared away.
    • Oklahoma City (7-4-1, 3-1-1 SAC) only had one on-target shot in the entire opening half as it came in the 18th minute when Abby Russell took a long distance shot from the left side that bounced in for an easy save for MACU goalkeeper Rachel Torres to keep it a scoreless game.
    • Neither team was able to put together any major threats over the rest of the half as both teams went into the break with a 0-0 draw.
  • Second Half
    • OCU's only on-target shot in the second stanza came in the 61st minute off the foot of Aynslee Duffy, but the shot never really threatened Torres as she made the easy save.
    • A minute later, Asley Baker nearly put one through from 40-yards out as she lofted the line drive deep shot just barely over the crossbar.
    • In the 79th minute, the Evangels finally broke through when Asley Baker's throw-in found the foot of her sister Brae Baker on the box out and lofted a 28-yard strike from the left side to the top right corner to make it a 1-0 game.
    • Neither team mustered much of a threat the rest of the way as MACU sealed the victory.
MATCH NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian dominated a bulk load of the possession, outshooting Oklahoma City 17-9 with an 8-2 differential in shots on-goal.

  • Rachel Torres notched her 11th career shutout with a pair of saves while her 23rd career win allowed her to surpass Kaitlyn Whitten (2013-15) for third on MACU's all-time goalie wins list.
