SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 4-0
  • Last Game: Won vs. Mission (Mo.) – 95-88 – Nov. 9, 2024 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Season Notes:
    • After finding itself down by 11 following the first quarter in the MACU Classic finale against Mission on Saturday, Mid-America Christian was able to find its stride in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Patriots 57-36 over the next two periods before holding off MU for the 95-88 victory.
    • Through the first four games of the season, MACU ranks as the 18th-best scoring offense in the NAIA at 88.0 ppg. A big reason for the offensive success has been the play of redshirt senior guard Shy Christopher, who currently ranks second in the SAC in scoring average at 21.5 ppg.
    • Another reason for MACU's successful run through the MACU Classic was the play of senior forward Alexis Borgstadt and junior guard Talayah Thomas. Borgstadt, who had scored only eight points through the first two games finished the annual classic with 33 points (16.5 ppg) while Thomas, who also netted just eight points through the first two contest scored 35 points (17.5 ppg) in the two MACU Classic contests.
    • The floor game has also played a large factor in MACU's early success as the Evangels own a plus-16 rebounding margin per game while also forcing its opposition into four more turnovers per game.

  • Team Notes:
    • UNT Dallas opened its 2024-25 season at the Texas Wesleyan Classic this past weekend and after suffering a 67-52 loss to Friends to open the season, the Trailblazers bounced back with a 70-69 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday.
    • The Evangels will need to be cognizant of the dribble drive ability of senior guard Skye Dugan. After scoring 42 points (21.0 ppg) through the first two points, most of the damage she has done has been from the free throw line, converting on 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) of her free throw attempts.
    • One area of the Trailblazers game that MACU will need to take advantage of is the turnover game. Through the first two contests, UNTD is giving the ball away at a rate of 23.5 turnovers per game and will be facing a MACU defense that is forcing 16 giveaways per contest.
    • With UNT Dallas entering its fourth season in the SAC, MACU has been able to dominate the all-time series, winning all six of the previous meetings by 22.3 ppg. The last time the two teams met inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Feb. 17, the Evangels jumped out to a commanding 22-12 lead after the first quarter and didn't look back as MACU held as large as a 31-point advantage before wrapping up the 97-74 victory. The Evangels utilized incredible offensive balance in the win with five players breaking double-figures and seven players scoring at least eight points.
