Men’s Basketball Falls at No. 2 Langston

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU men's basketball team ran into a second half buzz saw against No. 2 Langston in the second half as the Evangels fell to the Lions 91-55 inside C.F. Gayles Field House on Thursday night.
 
TOP PERFORMERS GAME SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Langston (21-1, 15-1 SAC) opened the contest by scoring the first seven points as a Toru Dean's left-wing step-back three with 16:52 to go made it a 7-0 game.
    • Mid-America Christian got on the board on the ensuing possession on a Seth Herd hook shot before Jasiah Lewis hit a pull-up midrange jumper from the right wing to close it to 7-4 with 15:38 left.
    • Over the next nine minutes, the Lions slowly built their lead out to double-digits as Anthony Roy's bucket with 6:45 remaining gave Langston its largest lead of the half at 24-13.
    • The Evangels caught fire from the three-point arc over a three-minute stretch as triples by DeAngelo Adkins, Eddie Smith and Zalek Sharp along with an Adkins dunk during an 11-4 run allowed MACU to close it to 28-24 at the 3:10 mark.
    • Langston scored the final five points of the half to hold a 33-24 advantage heading into the break.
  • Second Half
    • After trading the first six points of the second half, Langston put together a massive 16-2 run over a four-minute stretch to extend its lead to 52-29.
    • The Evangels scored four of the next six on a pair of Adkins free throws and a strong Quentin Woodson finish in the paint, but Langston swung back with a 13-2 run to make it a 67-35 game with 8:21 left.
    • MACU was unable to close the gap the rest of the way as Langston pulled away with the 91-55 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Mid-America Christian shot 15-for-42 (35.7 percent) from the field and 6-of-20 (30 percent) from three-point range while knocking down 19-for-29 (65.5 percent) from the free throw line.
  • The Evangels struggled to slow down Langston as the Lions shot 32-of-59 (54.2 percent), including 14-of-29 (48.3 percent) from three-point range while converting 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from the charity stripe.
  • The Lions were able to control the glass with a 38-22 rebounding margin, including a 15-8 edge on the offensive end while also holding a 12-7 advantage in forced turnovers.
  • DeAngelo Adkins was the lone Evangel to break into double-figures with 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting and 4-for-5 from the free throw line to go with three rebounds and two assists.
  • Quentin Woodson and Zalek Sharp provided a spark off the MACU bench with nine and eight points respectively.
  • With the defeat, Langston swept the season series. However, due to Southwestern Assemblies of God losing 94-88 at Oklahoma City, the Evangels were able to remain in a four-way tie for second in the SAC standings with SAGU, Science & Arts and Wayland Baptist.

  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the road on Saturday as the Evangels will head to McPherson, Kansas for a 3:45 p.m. contest against Central Christian inside Jerry Alexander Arena.
