Eggleston Breaks Strikeouts Record, Softball Sweeps Panhandle State in Four-Game Slate

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU softball team could not have asked for a better bounce-back weekend as the Evangels gave up just two runs in its series against Oklahoma Panhandle State at Allen Field this weekend as the Evangels completed the four-game sweep.

MACU opened the quad-fecta with 1-0 and 5-2 wins over the Aggies on Friday before dominating OPSU in Saturday's twin-bill by getting the 8-0, 10-0 victories.

GAME ONE

    • Mid-America Christian (11-9, 4-5 SAC)
    • Oklahoma Panhandle State (7-14, 4-5 SAC)
PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its lone run on five hits and committed two errors while Oklahoma Panhandle State notched only three base knocks in the contest.
  • The victory for redshirt junior pitcher Rachel Eggleston was a special one as the three-year starter became MACU's all-time career strikeout leader as her eight punch-outs allowed her to finish the day with 337. The Kiowa, Oklahoma native surpassed three-time NCCAA All-American and former teammate Regan Martin (2018-21) for the program record with her third strikeout in the top of the first.
  • While scoring chances were incredibly limited for both squads, MACU found a brief window in the bottom of the fourth where the Evangels were able to get to OPSU starter Kenley Yocom. Back-to-back base hits by Brooklyn Wilson and Morgan Fowble led to Makenzie Thurman ripping a double down the left field line to bring in Wilson for the game's only run.
  • The Aggies weren't able to muster much of a scoring threat in the contest as OPSU never had a runner reach third and only had runners reach twice in the top of the first on an Audi Pettaway single and a Meagan Bellar hit-by-pitch while the other came on an Olivia Woytiuk two-out double.
  • Fowble was the only player for either team to record multiple hits, slashing 2-for-3 while Thurman produced the lone run by slashing 1-for-3 with MACU's only extra-base hit being a double. Brooklyn Wilson also reached safely twice by batting 1-for-2 with a walk and the only runs scored in the game.
GAME TWO
SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 5, Oklahoma Panhandle State 2
    • Mid-America Christian (12-9, 5-5 SAC)
    • Oklahoma Panhandle State (7-15, 4-6 SAC)
PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Despite ending up on the losing end, the Aggies were able to out-hit the Evangels as OPSU scored its two runs on eight hits with an error while MACU pushed across its five runs on seven hits and made a pair of miscues.
  • Even though MACU starting pitcher Chana Wolfe was able to get two quick outs against the Aggies, OPSU was able to get to the Evangels starter momentarily as the Aggies recorded a walk and three-straight singles, including a pair of RBI base knocks from Melissa Carroll and Chloe Browning to take their only lead of the series at 2-0.
  • In the bottom of the third, the Evangels were finally able to break through against OPSU's ace Kaycee Torres. After loading the bases and with two outs, Morgan Fowble was able to smack a grounder in-between the shortstop and third baseman for a two-RBI single to tie the game up. In the very next at-bat, Makenzie Thurman put the Evangels up for good as she also put a single through the left side to bring in Hallie Wilson and set the score to 3-2.
  • The Aggies put together a big-time threat to tie or take the lead when OPSU loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth, but Wolfe got out of the jam by striking out Koral Sylestine for the final out.
  • After getting a scare in the top-half of the frame, the Evangels added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth as MACU loaded the bases on a pair of bunt singles by Talyn Wheeler and Stormy Haynes to go with an Emylee Campbell walk. With MACU's top hitter in Kisbel Vizcaya coming to the dish, who was 0-for-6 in her previous at-bats in the series, Vizcaya was able to deliver a two-RBI single to center to stretch the edge out to 5-2.
  • The Evangels decided to go to their pen for the seventh as Avery Schneringer came in in the seventh and held OPSU to just one one-out single as MACU secured the 5-2 victory.
  • Wolfe earned her fourth win of the season in the circle, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, which were all singles with two walks and struck out a career-high five batters.
  • After going hitless in her previous four games, Campbell was able to snap out of her skid in a big way by batting 2-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base to go with a pair of runs.
  • Morgan Fowble and Kisbel Vizcaya were MACU's best run producers with each finishing with a pair of RBIs.
GAME THREE
SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 8, Oklahoma Panhandle State 0 (6 Inn)
    • Mid-America Christian (12-9, 6-5 SAC)
    • Oklahoma Panhandle State (7-16, 4-7 SAC)
PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its eight runs on 12 hits and committed two errors while the Aggies finished with three hits and committed a pair of miscues.
  • The Evangels got the scoring going in the bottom of the first by utilizing some great small ball. After opening the frame with singles by Kisbel Vizcaya and Hallie Wilson to put runners on the corners, MACU perfectly executed a double steal to score the first run. With Wilson getting down to third on an error, Makenzie Thurman brought her home on a sac fly to right to make it a 2-0 game.
  • In the bottom of the third, the Evangels put up a crooked number by pushing across four runs. Vizcaya started the scoring by lacing an RBI triple down the right field line before she scored on Hallie Wilson's squeeze bunt single to third. Later in the frame, MACU plated two more on Morgan Fowble's sac fly to right to score Hallie Wilson before Thurman scored on an errant throw-in on Brooklyn Wilson's flyout to right, setting the score to 6-0.
  • The only trouble MACU starter Avery Schneringer found herself in came in the top of the sixth when the Aggies put runners on second on third with one out on a Karsyn Coleman double and a Nicole Peralta single while advancing to second on a throwing error. However, Schneringer navigated her way out of the jam by inducing back-to-back pop-outs to short to end the threat.
  • While the Aggies weren't able to capitalize in their half of the inning, the Evangels were as Madison Mora rifled an RBI double down the left field line to put the walk-off run down to second before Vizcaya slapped a grounder past the diving shortstop for the game-ending RBI single to wrap-up the 8-0 final.
  • Schneringer tossed her first complete game shutout of the season and the eighth of her MACU career, allowing just three hits and didn't walk a single batter while striking out five over six innings of work.
  • Vizcaya put together a huge game from the dish, slashing 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored while MACU got a pair of two-hit games from Hallie Wilson and Thurman as Wilson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs to go along with two stolen bases while Thurman swatted 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run.
  • By getting the win, Mid-America Christian secured its third regular season series win over the Aggies in the last four years.

  • The Evangels blew the game wide open in the bottom of the third by scoring eight runs, featuring a Hallie Wilson two-RBI double, a Kisbel Vizcaya two-RBI single, RBI singles from Madison Mora and Stormy Haynes to go along with some small ball scores with a Brooklyn Wilson squeeze sac bunt as well as a Karlee Danielson sac fly in foul territory to capture a commanding 9-0 advantage.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, MACU pushed across its final run of the game when Brooklyn Wilson and Emylee Campbell reached on back-to-back singles and when executing a double steal, an errant throw down to second allowed Wilson to score to seal the 10-0 result.
  • Freshman pitcher Gia Reynosa earned her first career complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and no walks while striking out four over five innings of work.
  • Vizcaya and Hallie Wilson were MACU's two biggest run producers with two RBIs each as Vizcaya finished 2-for-3 with a run and stolen base while Wilson slashed 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
  • Brooklyn Wilson was able to get her bat going for the series finale as well, going 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and was the only Evangel to score two runs in the contest.
  • Campbell was the third Evangel to have a multi-hit game, swatting 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen bag.
