PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian jumped on the Eagles as a Taiga Sakuma leadoff single up the middle and a fielding error on D'Andre Gaines' at-bat by the first baseman set up Noel McGarry-Doyle to drove a two-RBI double to left to give MACU the 2-0 advantage.
  • The Evangels added to it in the top of the second when Zachary Stark started off a two-out rally by drawing a walk after fighting back from an 0-2 count. Going back to the top of the order, Sakuma laced a line drive triple to the center field wall, scoring pinch-runner K.J. Moo-Young from first to bring it to a 3-0 game.
  • In the fourth, the Evangels blew the game wide open with two outs. Following Zachary Stark's double to left, MACU scored on four-straight at-bats as another Sakuma single up the middle plated Moo-Young followed by an RBI double to center from Gaines and an RBI single to right by McGarry-Doyle. The right fielder then stole second and scored on a Kyle Williams RBI single up the middle to give the Evangels a commanding 7-0 advantage.
  • After going down in-order through the first three innings, Southwestern Christian put together a major threat in the bottom of the fourth as a pair of singles loaded the bases with two outs, but MACU starting pitcher Zane Robeaux shut the door by striking out Joseph Boone to end the threat.
  • The Eagles put together another bases-loaded threat with an out in the bottom of the seventh after Robeaux walked three-straight batters. However, the senior righty once again got out of the jam by inducing a popout to first and a flyout to center to secure the 7-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its seven runs on 11 hits and committed an error while Southwestern Christian recorded four hits and a pair of errors.
  • Zane Robeaux tossed his first career complete game shutout while improving to 9-0 on the mound, allowing just four hits, all of which were singles with four walks and struck out six. By striking out his first batter, Robeaux moved alone at the top of MACU's NAIA Era (2008-present) career record book. The Mustang, Oklahoma native ended his day with 195 strikeouts, putting him on the cusp of being MACU's first 200-strikeout pitcher. Robeaux also moved into a four-way tie for the single season record in wins with his ninth of the year, joining teammate Isaac Baez (2023, 2024) and Keisy Portorreal (2018).
  • The top half of MACU's order was downright lethal as the hitting tandem of Taiga Sakuma, D'Andre Gaines, Noel McGarry-Doyle and Kyle Williams finished the day batting a combined 9-for-15 (.600) with two doubles and a triple for seven RBIs and five runs.
  • Sakuma turned in a three-hit game for the Evangels, slashing 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs and scored a pair of runs.
  • McGarry-Doyle was the most productive bat with his 2-for-4 performance, tallying three RBIs. With the outing, McGarry-Doyle moved into second on MACU's NAIA Era single-season RBIs list at 62, overtaking James Frederick (61, 2010) and needed just one more to tie MACU Player of the Decade Jerry McNew (63, 2017). McGarry-Doyle also moved alone into third on MACU's career RBIs list at 112, needing just nine more to match McNew.
  • McGarry-Doyle also continued his climb up MACU's career stolen bases record book as his 24th nabbed bag moves him into a tie with Taylor Daniels (2012-14) for fourth on the list.
  • The victory allowed MACU to lock up the Sooner Athletic Conference crown after entering the weekend with a two-game lead over Oklahoma City. MACU also became just the second SAC team since 2012 to win every single SAC series, joining the 2021 Stars who went 22-2 in league play.

PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • After the first two batters were retired in the top of the first, the Evangels got a two-out rally going as a Noel McGarry-Doyle single down the left field line set up Kyle Williams with an RBI triple down the right field line. Anthony Hampton followed it up with an RBI double down the very same right field line before Carlos Medina wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single up the middle to make it a 3-0 game.
  • In the top of the third, MACU pushed across one more run on some heads-up base-running by D'Andre Gaines. After Gaines drew a walk and stole second, the speedy center fielder ended up coming around to score on Williams' slow chopper to first for another RBI as Gaines slid in just before the tag could be applied, extending the edge to 4-0.
  • Mid-America Christian took advantage of a pair of Eagles miscues to add two more runs to its lead. After Medina sliced a leadoff double down the left field line and Jacob Police grounded a single through the left side to put runners at the corners. Two batters later, Tanner Graves grounded a fielder's choice to third, but the third baseman made an errant throw to second to try and get the lead runner as Medina scored on the RBI while putting Police at third for another situation with runners at the corners. MACU pushed across its final run when Joel Nieves stole second, but a wild throw by the catcher got to the outfield, allowing Police to score to set the score to 6-0.
  • The Evangels pitching staff of starting pitcher Breyllin Suriel and reliever Carlos Escobosa shut the door on Southwestern Christian as Suriel tossed five shutout innings while Escobosa allowed no runs over the final two innings to seal the 6-0 victory.

Carlos Escobosa also tossed two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit and struck out a batter.

  • The three-hit day moved Medina into the program's NAIA Era career top 10 hits list as he now sits in a tie for ninth with Kevin Lentzner (2017-19) with 111 knocks. The Apple Valley, California product also moved alone into fourth on MACU's career doubles list with his 26th two-bagger.
