PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • Despite hitting into a double play that put the Evangels at two outs with nobody on the top of the second, MACU still managed to push a run across when Brooklyn Wilson singled to left and then came around to score on Hallie Wilson's single to right when the third baseman muffed the throw to try to get Brooklyn Wilson advancing, making it a 1-0 game.
  • In the fourth, the Evangels added one more run with two outs. After Cierra Russell got on second following a throwing error by the shortstop, Brooklyn Wilson grounded an RBI single through the left side to extend the edge to 2-0.
  • The Tigers scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth when Amberly Barrera hit a two-out solo homer over the left field wall to close the gap to 2-1.
  • However, the Evangels quickly recovered the run and gained some extra insurance when a pair of walks drawn by Karlee Danielson and Emylee Campbell set up Makenzie Thurman for her first career home run, a three-run shot over the left-center field fence to extend the advantage to 5-1.
  • MACU threatened to put up a huge inning in the top of the seventh as Kisbel Vizcaya ripped a triple to right-center and came around to score on a Thurman single through the left side after Campbell drew another walk before Morgan Fowble was hit by a pitch to load the bases. However, the Tigers were able to limit the damage to just one run in the frame as the Evangels secured the 6-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its six runs on nine hits while Central Christian notched its only run on two hits and committed a pair of errors.
  • Rachel Eggleston closed out her 10th complete game of the season with just one earned run allowed on two hits with no walks to go with eight strikeouts. The senior weekend put together a stellar weekend in the circle, notching a pair of wins and allowing just one total earned run on three hits with three walks and 17 strikeouts over 12 innings of work.
  • Brooklyn Wilson recorded a three-hit game from the dish, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Makenzie Thurman recorded a career-high four RBIs in the victory, slashing 2-for-4 with a homer and a run.
  • Morgan Fowble was the only other Evangel to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double and her 11th career hit-by-pitch.
  • The victory secured the series win for the Evangels, marking their fifth-straight taken series while winning six of the last seven while splitting a four-game set against No. 4 Science & Arts on Mar. 22-23. Since picking up a 1-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Mar. 15, MACU has won 24 of its last 28 games.
GAME TWO
SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 5, Central Christian 1
    • Mid-America Christian (34-13, 26-9 SAC)
    • Central Christian (15-31, 8-28 SAC)
PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • The Evangels put together the first major scoring threat in the top of the second by loading the bases on a Brooklyn Wilson single, a Karlee Danielson double and a Stormy Haynes walk. However, MACU got a bit unlucky when Kayten Herman hit a sharp liner to the Tigers third baseman that managed to tag out Wilson trying to return to third for the inning-ending double play.
  • Despite coming up empty in the second, the Evangels utilized some small ball in the top of the third as Hallie Wilson led off the frame with a double, stole second, moved down to third on a groundout to third before scoring on Emylee Campbell's RBI groundout to short.
  • In the fourth, MACU took advantage of a Tigers miscue following a Morgan Fowble leadoff walk as Brooklyn Wilson hammered a double to the right-center field gap. As Central Christian tried to make a throw down to third to get pinch-runner Taela Hubbard out, an errant throw by the second baseman allowed Hubbard to score and Wilson to advance to third. Danielson drove in Wilson in the very next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right to extend the MACU advantage to 3-0.
  • After getting two quick outs to start the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers utilized their scoring chance when a dropped flyball in left field set up Abby Schleisman for an RBI single to right-center before putting a pair in scoring position on Peyton Major single up the middle and advanced on a throw to try and get the runner at third. However, with the potential tying run at second, Avery Schneringer got out of the jam by striking out Halee Wallin on a pitch on the outside corner to keep it to a 3-1 game.
  • MACU mustered another major threat in the top of the fifth as a Hallie Wilson leadoff single and Vizcaya reached on an error before performing a double-steal to put runners at second and third with no outs. However, the Tigers held MACU to only one run on Madison Mora's RBI groundout back to the pitcher, stretching the lead back to three at 4-1.
  • The Evangels pushed across one more insurance run in the sixth with a two-out rally. After Stormy Haynes reached on an infield single to third and pinch-hitter Aubrey Meyers was pegged by a pitch, Hallie Wilson ripped an RBI double to center to push across one run to set the score to 5-1 and put two in scoring position. Once again, the Tigers managed to limit the damage as Vizcaya grounded out to third to end the frame.
  • Despite MACU missing on another chance to add insurance runs in the seventh with runners at second and third and two outs, Schneringer did not need the additional run support as she struck out the first two batters before getting Miranda Tegtmeier to weakly ground out to second to wrap-up the 5-1 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its five runs on six hits and committed an error while the Tigers scored their only run on five hits and made five errors.
  • Avery Schneringer closed out a sensational week in the circle with her seventh complete game victory, allowing just one unearned run on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts. In three appearances, the senior pitcher finished with two wins and a save and allowing only one unearned run on six hits with a walk and 12 strikeouts over 13 innings pitched.
  • Of MACU's six hits, the Wilsons in Brooklyn Wilson and Hallie Wilson accumulated four of them as Hallie Wilson batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored to go with a walk and two stolen bases. Meanwhile, Brooklyn Wilson slashed 2-for-3 with a double, a run, a walk and a stolen base. Her two-bagger marked the 34th of her three-year MACU career, moving her alone into third on MACU's career doubles list.
  • Overall, Brooklyn Wilson wrapped up an incredible weekend from the plate, finishing the four-game series batting 8-for-12 (.667) with a double, a homer, five RBIs and three runs scored to go with a pair of walks and two stolen bases.
  • Karlee Danielson continued to be an extra-base hitting machine for the Evangels as the junior outfielder finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Since recording her first extra-base hit on a double at Texas Wesleyan on Mar. 28, Danielson has smashed 10 extra-base hits on six doubles and four homers on her 15 hits during that stretch.
  • The victory allowed MACU to improve to 43-5 against Central Christian since 2006, which includes winning 43 of the last 45 meetings. The series sweep was also MACU's fifth of the season.
  • The win allowed the Evangels to wrap-up a historic regular season as MACU heads into Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament play with a 34-13 overall record and finished with a 27-9 record against SAC competition. The Evangels not only set a program record for the most conference wins at 27, but their .750 league winning percentage is its highest ever since joining the SAC in 2008.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will now prepare for the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the Evangels will compete in the Chickasha, Oklahoma bracket as the No. 3 seed starting on Thursday.
  • Due to inclement weather pushing some games back to Sunday and Monday, the tournament field will be announced following the conclusion of the Oklahoma Panhandle State/Science & Arts series on Monday.
