Women’s Soccer Welcomes Williams Baptist for Labor Day Showdown

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU women's soccer team will be wrapping up a busy three-game in six-day stretch on Labor Day Monday as the Evangels host Williams Baptist for a noon kickoff at the Dill Soccer Field.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 2-0
  • Last Game: Won at Southwestern (Kan.) – 4-0 – Aug. 31, 2024 – Winfield, Kan.
  • Top Performers:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian opened its season on a strong note last week as the Evangels grinded out a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a very strong LSU Shreveport program at the Dill Soccer Field on Thursday night before going into Southwestern on Saturday night and pulling away with a dominant 4-0 win.
    • In her first two games as an Evangel, freshman forward Stephanie Arrivillaga has very much impressed as she led the MACU attack with three goals, two of which coming off of corner kicks while also netting the game-winning penalty kick in the victory over the Pilots.
    • In Saturday's win at Southwestern, the Evangels were challenged by the Moundbuilders goalkeeper Hayden Clark, who impressively made 16 saves in the contest. However, despite holding a commanding shot advantage for the entire match, MACU was finally able to break through in the 57th minute on a long-distance strike by graduate student forward Annika Gerdau.
    • The Evangels were able to downright dominate in the possession in that win over Southwestern as MACU held the Moundbuilders to only two shots for the entire 90-minute match while attempting 30 shots and putting 22 on-goal in its own right.
SCOUTING REPORT

      • 0-3 W-L, 5.04 GAA, 33 Saves, .702 SV%
  • Team Notes:
    • Williams Baptist has struggled mightily to start off the 2024 season as the Eagles enter the Labor Day matchup against the Evangels with an 0-3 record and have been outscored by their opposition 15-0.
    • With the Eagles only getting off 12 shots as a team through those first three games, most of the shots have come off the foot of freshman Victoria de Abreu, who has attempted seven of those shots while placing five of them on-target.
    • Freshman goalkeeper Lisa Craig has seen a bulk load of the playing time in-goal for the Eagles and while she is conceding 5.04 goals per game, she has efficiently recorded 33 saves on a .702 save percentage.
    • Monday's meeting between Mid-America Christian and Williams Baptist will mark the first ever between the two programs.
