Women’s Soccer Wallops Wayland Baptist 6-0 in SAC Opener on Alumni Day

OKLAHOMA CITYDeborah Silveira came off the bench to score two goals and the MACU Women's Soccer team scored four times in the first half on its way to a 6-0 win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener. The Evangels also celebrated their annual Alumni Day at the Dill Soccer Field.

  • First Half
    • Mid-America Christian (6-1-2, 1-0 SAC) pummeled Wayland Baptist (1-6, 0-1 SAC) goalkeeper Ava Kent early and often, outshooting the Pioneers 21-7 before intermission.
    • Brae Baker continued her strong play, scoring a breakaway goal for her sixth of the season off passes from Gladis Avalos and Asley Baker to make it 1-0 in the fourth minute. Baker, the transfer from Oklahoma Baptist, has scored a goal in six of eight games this season.
    • Deborah Silveira scored her third and fourth goals of the season within less than two minutes of each other to extend the Evangels' lead to 3-0. Stephanie Arrivillaga and Brae Baker assisted on Silveira's first goal, while Rosina Mastroberadino got the assist on Silveira's second goal to give her the brace.
    • Arrivillaga scored for the first time in four games, netting a pass from Cammy Hargrove to give MACU a 4-0 lead. The goal was her team-leading seventh on the season.
    • The Evangels scored three times in less than four minutes to blow the game open.
  • Second Half
    • Madison Chavez got the scoring started with her second goal of the season at the 69:48 mark, capitalizing on assists from Avalos and Mastroberardino to push the ball across the goal line to extend the Evangels' lead to 5-0.
    • Alissa Taylor scored her first goal of the season following a pass from Chavez, who drew Kent out of position before sliding the ball to Taylor for the open net in the 83rd minute.
 
 
MATCH NOTES
  • MACU kept the pressure on Kent throughout the game, outshooting Wayland Baptist 36-11, including 19 shots on-goal to only four for the Pioneers.
  • The Pioneers entered the match as the SAC's worst scoring defense and continued to add to that total, now conceding a league-high 27 goals in
  • Goalkeepers Rachel Torres and Nevaeh Vanhoutan shared time in goal against the Pioneers to record the combined shutout. Torres, the starter, played 65 minutes and turned away three shots on-goal while Vanhoutan played 25 minutes and stopped the only shot she faced.
  • Arrivillaga, a freshman from Guatemala, Brae Baker, a sophomore from El Reno, Oklahoma and Chavez, a sophomore from Ardmore, Oklahoma, each contributed a goal and an assist for the Evangels.
  • Silveria led the MACU scoring efforts with her first brace of the season, boosting her season goal total to three on the year.
  • Mastroberardino, a sophomore from England, and Avalos, a junior from Guatemala, each had two assists for MACU.
  • Mid-America Christian took the lead in the all-time series against the Pioneers as the Evangels are 9-8-4 against WBU since the 2007 season.
