Women’s Soccer Bests Baker for 3-0 Home Victory

OKLAHOMA CITY – Freshman Stephanie Arrivillaga notched her sixth goal and first assist of the season while Annika Gerdau and Deborah Silveira also contributed a goal and an assist to guide the MACU Women's Soccer team defeat Baker (Kan.) 3-0 to remain undefeated.
 
SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Graduate student forward Annika Gerdau netted her second goal of the season in the 26th minute with a dazzling shot off her left foot from distance that deflected off the right post following a crisp look from Stephanie Arrivillaga for her her first assist of the season.
    • MACU made it 2-0 on Arrivillaga's sixth goal of the year in the 19th minute. Brae Baker, the Oklahoma Baptist transfer assisted along with Deborah Silveria, who notched her third assist on the young season.
    • MACU took five shots in the first nine minutes of play while Baker didn't get off a shot until the 10-minute mark. The Evangels went on to outshoot the Wildcats 16-3 over the first 45, including five shots on goal.
  • Second Half
    • The Evangels didn't wait long to add to their total, extending the lead to 3-nil on a goal from Silveira in the 49th minute. Gerdau set up the goal with a cross into the box, where Martella tapped it to Silveira, who pushed the ball past Baker goalkeeper Avery Young.
MATCH NOTES
  • MACU out-shot Baker by a commanding 28-4 advantage and owned a 10-4 edge in shots on-goal.
  • The Evangels have out-shot their last three opponents — Southwestern, Baker and Williams Baptist — by a combined 103-to-13 margin.
  • Annika Gerdau notched her first three-point game of the season with the second-game winner of the year to go with an assist. The goal for Gerdau marked the 11th of her three-year MACU career and her fourth winning goal.
  • Arrivillaga, the freshman from Guatemala, ran her point total to 13 on the season with her sixth goal and first assist.
  • Silveira, who was held without a point in the Evangels' first two matches, delivered off the bench again for MACU. The junior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tallied a goal and two assists in a 4-0 win over Williams Baptist on Labor Day, contributed a goal and an assist against Baker on Friday.
  • Sophomore forward Brae Baker is putting together an impressive season so far for the Evangels, adding a second assist to two goals for six points.

  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the road to begin the week on Monday as the Evangels head to Conway, Arkansas to take on Central Baptist for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
