GAME SUMMARY
  • First Quarter
    • Both teams came out firing on all cylinders out of the gate with the lead being changed twice through the first two-and-a-half minutes before Talayah Thomas gave Mid-America Christian (13-2, 10-2 SAC) the lead for good in the quarter with her three-ball from the right side to make it an 8-5 MACU advantage with 7:31 to go.
    • Following a Linda Brice layup on the ensuing possession, MACU gained some breathing room behind a 14-7 run over the next five minutes to stretch the lead to 22-14 on a pair of Sydney Savage foul shots with 2:48 left.
    • The Evangels went cold from the field over the final three minutes, being held to without a field goal over a 4:07 stretch as Wayland Baptist (15-1, 12-1 SAC) went on a 6-1 run to close out the quarter with Teodora Popovich's triple cutting it to a 23-20 contest.
  • Second Quarter
    • Despite ending the first period cold, the Evangels were red hot to start the second as MACU went on a 7-0 surge with Syncere Harrod burying a pair of foul shots with 7:50 to go to extend the lead to 30-20.
    • After Peyton North and Mary Nyakundi traded a pair of threes over the next two minutes, the Flying Queens seized control by going on a 15-2 streak as Megan Nestor's low-post put-in with 3:24 left gave WBU the 38-35 lead.
    • MACU surged back in-front on six-unanswered off a Kylee Scheer three and free throw to go with a Nyakundi bucket with 2:07 to go, but Wayland Baptist once again closed out by scoring the final four points as Popovic's floating jumper from the right post with 39 seconds left sent WBU into the break with the 42-41 advantage.
  • Third Quarter
    • Mid-America Christian made some strong defensive adjustments to start the second half, opening with an 8-2 run on a pair of threes by Scheer and Talayah Thomas before Shy Christopher's layup at the 7:27 mark gave MACU the 49-44 edge.

    • Another Nyakundi three with 2:51 to go stemmed the tide back in MACU's favor as the Evangels closed out the quarter with a 14-4 streak capped off on Nyakundi's triple from the left corner with 11 seconds to go sent Mid-America Christian into the final period with the 68-60 lead.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • After WBU opened the fourth by scoring four of the first seven, a Thomas triple and a Harley Harbour contested lay-in with 6:54 left gave MACU its largest lead of the game at 76-64.
    • Following Sydney Savage's foul shots with just over six minutes remaining, Wayland Baptist charged back by containing the Evangels to just two points over the next five-plus minutes while stringing together a 15-2 streak as Nestor's lay-in with 14 seconds to go gave WBU the 83-81 lead.
    • MACU had a golden opportunity to tie when Nyakundi was fouled going up for a layup with six seconds remaining, but she was only able to convert one of two foul shots to make it a one-point game.
    • With MACU fouling immediately after the inbound, Popovic converted on one-of-two foul shots with five seconds left to stretch it back to a two-point game, giving MACU one last chance to tie or take the lead.
    • However, WBU came up big on the defensive end by poking the inbound pass away from Nyakundi and securing it in the corner as time expired to allow the Flying Queens to seal the 83-81 win.
