Men’s Basketball Set to See Stars in Saturday Showdown

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Men's Basketball team will be seeking to stay hot as it prepares for a Saturday showdown against crosstown rival Oklahoma City as the Evangels will tip things off at 4 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 15-5 (11-5 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won vs. Southwestern Christian (Okla.) – 102-61 – Jan. 23, 2025 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian continued its blistering hot shooting in Thursday's road game turned home game against Southwestern Christian. With the contest being moved to the Gaulke due to water damage in Pickens-Springer Gym, the Evangels reached triple-digit scoring for the first time this season to cruise to a 102-61 victory over the Eagles.
    • After getting a stunning 88-67 win over the top scoring defense in the NAIA in No. 8 Langston on Monday, Thursday's result marked the second-straight game where the Evangels shot over 50 percent from both the field and the three-point arc as MACU shot 59.4 percent overall while knocking down a season-high 16-for-31 (51.6 percent) from three-point range.
    • For the third time in the last four games, Juwan White eclipsed the 20-point plateau, tying a season-best 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting, going 4-for-4 from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to go with four assists with no turnovers in just 20 minutes of action.
    • In a week featuring three games, the result allowed MACU to go deep into their bench as MACU played a season-most 17 players with 10 players breaking into the scoring column and eight players tallying six or more points.
    • One incredible stat from Thursday's result was that not only did MACU out-rebound Southwestern Christian 38-19, but the Evangels also held the Eagles without an offensive rebound, making it the first time in the NAIA Era (2007-present) that the Evangels did not give up an offensive board in a game.

      • 334 Points (17.6 ppg), 94-219 FG (42.9%), 27-91 3FG (29.7%), 119-146 FT (81.5%), 89 Reb (4.7 rpg), 51 Assists (2.7 apg), 24 Steals (1.3 spg)
    • Clayton Jewell – SO – F
      • 248 Points (13.8 ppg), 111-193 FG (57.5%), 165 Reb (9.2 rpg)

  • Team Notes:
    • After facing a flu epidemic this past weekend, Oklahoma City was without its top three scorers in a road game at John Brown as the Stars suffered their worst loss of the season in a 103-53 defeat inside Bill George Arena on Monday.
    • Despite being a prolific scoring team in non-conference play, the Stars have struggled to get into an offensive rhythm against Sooner Athletic Conference competition as OCU ranks just ninth in the league in scoring offense (70.0 ppg) on the 10th-best field goal percentage (42.2) and the league's worst three-point percentage (26.0). Aside from the offensive struggles, Oklahoma City has been even more troubled on the defensive end, allowing a league-most 79.4 ppg while teams are shooting a blistering 46.8 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from three-point range.
    • With the Stars getting most of their pieces back on Saturday, the Evangels will need to look to contain one of the best offensive guards in the SAC in Avery Jackson. The junior wing has a knack for getting to the foul line as he is averaging 17.6 ppg and leads the conference in made free throws (119) while shooting a highly efficient 81.5 percent from the line. Clayton Jewell has been an imposing presence in the low post as well, averaging 13.8 ppg on the SAC's third-best field goal percentage (57.5).
    • Mid-America Christian will be seeking the series sweep for the second-straight year after the Evangels were able to put together a downright dominant defensive performance inside Abe Lemons Arena on Dec. 14. In that win, MACU held the Stars to their third-lowest scoring output of the season and even held an overwhelming 68-43 advantage with just over three minutes left before OCU closed out the contest with a 15-1 run against MACU's reserves to wrap-up the 69-58 result.
