GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian outhit LSU-Alexandria 13-12 outscoring the Generals 16-13, both teams committed three errors. MACU scored 11 of its 14 runs of the bats of Carlos Medina and Brett Justice, the duo both doubled and homered in the contest.
  • Despite loading the bases in the first two innings, MACU was able to muster just one across to take an early 1-0 lead into the top half of the third. After Cristopher Munoz walked to lead off the inning, Brett Justice laced a double in the left-center field gap scoring Munoz to extend the lead. The Evangels were far from done, following a Jonluke Hobdy walk and Giordany Mendoza sac bunt to advance the runners, Carlos Medina drove in Hobdy and Justice on a double to left making it 4-0 MACU.
  • For the second time this weekend D'Andre Gaines left the yard on a two-run shot to add on making it 6-0 to highlight a five-run inning for the Evangels.
  • LSUA was able to plate one in the bottom half of the third on a throwing error by Mendoza, but starting pitcher Fabian Hernandez was able to minimize the damage holding the Generals to just one run after three complete.
  • The Evangels tacked on four more in the top of the fourth on a three-run bomb to dead centerfield from Brett Justice, he scored Noel-McGarry Doyle and Cristopher Munoz, who led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and single down the right-field line. MACU plated one more in the inning when Mendoza scored on a passed ball to make it 10-1.
  • Hernandez worked a shutdown inning in the fourth picking up his first Evangel strikeout in the process, the quick inning allowed the offense to stay in grove as they scored five more on three hits. Justice grounded out to short scoring McGarry-Doyle and then Hobdy flared one down the right field line to knock in Elijah Lee. The top of the fifth was capped off on a three-run blast to left by Medina to give MACU a 15-1 advantage.
  • Still in search of their first hit, the Generals were able to turn on the switch in the bottom of the sixth rallying for 12 runs on 12 hits to suddenly make it a close ballgame. Andrws Acosta was able to fan two LSUA batters to escape the inning stranding the tying run in the box with MACU leading 15-13.
  • Gaines doubled and advanced to third on a single by Payton Matthews and later scored on a throwing error by the Generals catcher when Matthews stole second, adding on an insurance run with MACU up 16-13.

  • Mid-America Christian 13, LSU-Alexandria 3
    • Mid-America Christian (3-1)
    • LSU-Alexandria (2-2)
PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored 13 runs on 10 hits while limiting LSU-Alexandria to three runs on eight hits. Both teams committed two errors. Free passes were also an issue on both sides with the Evangels allowing six walks and a hit batsman while the Generals walked 10 and hit three.
  • The difference between the two teams was situational hitting, the Evangels scored nine of their 13 runs with two outs, including all six runs in the second inning. After a scoreless first, Conner Thompson scored Brett Justice on an RBI single through the left side. Dyson Kinnaman pinch-ran for Thompson and later scored along with Carlos Medina on D'Andre Gaines triple making it 3-0 in favor of MACU.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle kept the second inning alive with a knock to left, scoring Gaines. Cristopher Munoz became the fifth consecutive player to reach base on a hit-by-pitch allowing Brett Justice to drive a ball to right plating McGarry-Doyle and Matthews to extend the lead to 6-0.
  • The Generals had a prime opportunity to immediately respond in the bottom of the second after loading the bases with nobody out, however starting pitcher Gabriel Dixon limited the damage to just one run on a sacrifice fly to right. Dixon did a good job of staying poised, the General's attempted to catch the southpaw napping on a leave early first and third play due to Dixon's back being to the third base runner, nonetheless he calmly stepped off and fired home to Thompson to catch Lane Patin stealing to end the inning.
  • Matthews and McGarry-Doyle led off the inning with back-to-back hits putting themselves on second and third with nobody out, Matthews scored on a sacrifice fly by Munoz. McGarry-Doyle later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Giordany Mendoza making it 8-1 Evangels.
  • LSUA added on a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Luke Benoit. The Generals threatened to put more on the board in the fifth with first and second nobody out, but Brock Cordes entered in relief and retired the next three batters faced to preserve the 9-3 lead after five complete.
  • MACU took three walks to load the bases in the top of the sixth, and with two-down Matthews banged a bases-clearing triple just past the outstretched glove of the Generals left fielder scoring Kinnaan, Mendoza and Jonluke Hobdy. The Evangels added on another on an error to make it 13-3 where the score would finalize.
  • Payton Matthews cashed in his second three-RBI contest of the weekend, he went 2-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored and a stolen base.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle reached base in all five plate appearances, he finished 2-2 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Backstop Conner Thompson had his first multi-hit game as an Evangel, he went 2-3 with an RBI double and a walk.
  • Brett Justice wrapped up his phenomenal day going 1-2 with a pair of walks while driving in two. Jonluke Hobdy had another productive game, reaching base three times via a walk allowing him to score a run.
  • Gabriel Dixon was credited his first win in the program, although getting intro trouble a few times, Dixon did a great job limiting the damage allowing Cordes, Ryan Smith, and Jordan Smith to combine for three scoreless innings in relief to secure the 13-3 win.
  • With the doubleheader today, it marked the first time the teams have faced each other.
