No. 22 Women’s Basketball to Start Three-Game Road Trip to College of the Ozarks

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 22 MACU Women's Basketball team heads to the Branson, Missouri area to start a three-game road trip as the Evangels will take on College of the Ozarks inside Keeter Gymnasium on Saturday slated for a 2 p.m. tip-off.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 19-3 (15-3 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won vs. John Brown (Ark.) – 71-60 – Jan. 30, 2025 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Much like its first meeting against John Brown, Mid-America Christian had to put together a late run to pull away on Saturday. After Kylee Scheer got the last second layup at the end of the third quarter to give MACU 46-45 lead, the Evangels went on to outscore the Golden Eagles 25-15 in the fourth to secure a 71-60 win.
    • The duo of Kylee Scheer and Shy Christopher carried the Evangels offensive efforts, combining to score 34 points on 13-of-26 shooting. Scheer especially filled up the stat column, narrowly missing a double-double with eight rebounds and four assists to go with a pair of steals.
    • The Evangels are trying to put together their second-fastest run to 20 wins in a season since joining the NAIA in 2007 as MACU enters the weekend with a 19-3 overall record and a 15-3 mark in Sooner Athletic Conference play. MACU managed to get to 20 wins through 22 games back in the 2021-22 season.
    • Heading into the final six games of SAC play, the race for the conference title continues to be a three-horse race as the Evangels currently sit in third with a 15-3 league mark while Langston holds the top spot at 17-1 and Wayland Baptist ranks second at 16-2. MACU locked up a spot in the SAC Tournament with its win over the Golden Eagles and are close to sealing a top four spot, which would insure a SAC Quarterfinal home game.

  • Team Notes:
    • Since suffering a 79-70 loss at No. 12 Wayland Baptist back on Jan. 2, College of the Ozarks has been one of the hottest teams in the SAC, winning seven of its last eight games as the Bobcats are coming off a 68-58 win over Southwestern Christian at Abe Lemons Arena on Saturday.
    • A newcomer to the SAC this season, COFO has established itself as one of the top four teams in the league by possessing the third-best scoring offense in league play (69.8 ppg) while notching the second-best field goal percentage (42.1) and third-rated three-point clip (31.3). The Bobcats have also been outstanding on the defensive end, posting the conference's third-best scoring defense (58.7) on the best defensive field goal percentage (33.8) and second-lowest three-point percentage (26.1).
    • MACU will need to lock in defensively in the low post as the Evangels will be facing off against one of the best bigs in the league in Susana Moran. The junior forward ranks third in the entire NAIA in rebounding average (14.1) while averaging a double-double at 16.0 ppg on a stellar 53.5 percent shooting clip. Logan Jones and Taylor Rush are a pair of guards who can also score at a strong clip with each averaging 13.4 and 11.2 ppg.
    • Mid-America Christian and College of the Ozarks will be facing off for just the second time since the Bobcats joined the SAC. In their first meeting inside the Gaulke back on Nov. 23, the Evangels were able to shut down the star forward in Moran, holding her to just seven points and six rebounds while Shy Christopher put together an outstanding 19-point, 11-rebound performance to lead MACU to a 67-56 win.
