Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Volleyball suffers defeat on Friday night as Texas Wesleyan set season-highs in hitting percentage and blocks to defeat the Evangels in three sets inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

TOP PERFORMERS MATCH SUMMARY
  • Set One
    • Mid-America Christian grabbed an early 6-4 through Alica Obusekova, Seyi Atolagbe, and Karlee Siegfried's credited kills. Siegfried and Obusekova added an additional pair of terminations to keep up with Texas Wesleyan holding the small edge at 13-12.
    • The Rams rattled off three consecutive points to follow to take the lead at 15-13, as TWU blocks started to pile up. The Evangels showed fight as Casady McKinney's ace brought the first set back level at 16.
    • Texas Wesleyan won the next nine of 13 rallies, closing out the set 25-20 as Lyric Biggiers and Hanna Rubis lit up the stat sheet with three combined kills and blocks.
  • Set Two
    • The Evangels kept up with the Rams offense to open the set with Obusekova tallying two more kills leveling the set at 6-6. TWU continued to respond winning four consecutive points, and seven of the next eight rallies as Sydney Alexander hit three kills and a block during this stretch.
    • MACU rallied through the mid-point of the set to climb back within three at 16-13 with a Ryley Bowden ace and consecutive Marcela Nalin kills. However, the Rams continued to respond as Alexander hit another kill, and Ruby Rumohr contributed consecutive aces to extend the lead back out to 19-13.
    • Texas Wesleyan closed out the set with a pair of Biggiers terminations and another Alexander block to take the set 25-19.
  • Set Three
    • MACU started the final set on the front foot just like the previous two, leading 4-1 as Obusekova tallied another kill, and Sydney Martin is credited with an ace. Both teams exchanged points as the Evangels held a small advantage at 10-9 with a kill from Madi Trayler.
    • Another three point scoring run from the Rams forced a timeout from MACU. The Evangels rallied consecutive points out of the timeout, but TWU responded once more winning seven of the next eight rallies through a pair of Rubis blocks and Migdaly Bernal terminations.
    • The Evangels continued the fight to close out the match but couldn't get a scoring run to make a strong effort at a final set comeback. The Rams added a few more blocks to their tally to take the set 25-18.
MATCH NOTES
  • Texas Wesleyan finished with a slight edge on kills by a 38-37 margin, but TWU tallied a .373 hitting percentage over MACU's .162%.
  • Obusekova led the MACU attacking efforts with 10 kills, while contributing defensively with five digs.
  • Casady McKinney and Madison Lee split distribution efforts with 16 and 14 assists. McKinney finished with nine digs to go along with a service ace.  
  • On the defensive side, Ryley Bowden had 10 digs to lead the back row while Sydney Martin added seven shovels. Mia Benson and Madi Trayler led blocking with one a piece.
  • Texas Wesleyan's hitting clip of .373% and total blocks of 14 set season-highs for the Rams.
