Volleyball Set to Host Science & Arts, Heads to Langston on Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Volleyball team is preparing for a split home-and-away doubleheader as the Evangels close out a three-match home stand against Science & Arts at 6 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Tuesday before heading up to Langston on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match inside C.F. Gayles Field House.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 10-10 (6-7 SAC)
  • Last Match: Lost vs Nelson (Texas) – 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-22) – Oct. 11, 2025 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian is looking to put the hardest part of its schedule behind it with the Evangels wrapping up their three-match home stand. The Evangels played seven of their first 11 Sooner Athletic Conference matches on the road and suffered a pair of three-set sweeps at home to the top two teams in the SAC in Texas Wesleyan and Nelson to start the second half.
    • Despite getting swept, the Evangels went toe-to-toe with Nelson in all three sets on Saturday afternoon, but MACU struggled to finish each set as the Lady Lions pulled out the late 26-24, 26-24, 25-22 wins.
    • Entering Tuesday with a .200 hitting percentage, the Evangels will be looking to get their attack back in-system. The Evangels have hit for a .170 or lower percentage in each of the last three matches. However, after having a few weeks where the Evangels have struggled in-service, MACU showed flashes of improvement against Nelson as they posted eight aces to eight errors while MACU had more service miscues than aces in the three previous matches.
    • After shoveling 21 digs, averaging 7.0 digs per set in the loss to Nelson, senior libero Ryley Bowden has continued to be one of the most prolific back-row defenders in the SAC. Bowden currently leads the conference in total digs (327) and digs per set (4.67) while her rate has been even more prolific in conference competition. Against SAC foes, Bowden is recording 5.38 digs per set, a significant difference ahead of the second-best rated player in Winiffer Rodriguez from Oklahoma Panhandle State at 4.74.
SCOUTING REPORT
Science & Arts
  • Record: 12-10 (6-7 SAC)
  • Last Match: Lost vs. Texas Wesleyan – 3-0 (30-28, 25-21, 25-15) – Oct. 11, 2025 – Chickasha, Okla.
  • Series vs MACU (2016-): MACU leads 20-1
  • Last Match vs MACU: MACU won 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 31-29) – Sept. 3, 2025 – Chickasha, Okla.
  • Series Streak: MACU won 1
  • Players to Watch:
    • Chloe Conover – JR – OH
      • 185 Kills (2.57 K/S), .190 ATK%, 130 Digs (1.81 D/S), 52 Blocks (0.72 B/S)
    • Ytzel Garcia – JR – S
      • 527 Assists (7.32 A/S), 44 Aces (0.61 SA/S), 121 Digs (1.68 D/S)
    • Brynlee Birney – SO – L/DS
      • 296 Digs (4.11 D/S), 28-385 RE-R (.927 RCV%), 17 Aces (0.24 SA/S)
    • Morgan Kobe – SR – MB
      • 80 Blocks (1.13 B/S), 98 Kills (1.38 K/S), .266 ATK%, 26 Aces (0.37 SA/S)
  • Team Notes:
    • Much like the Evangels, Science & Arts faced the daunting task of hosting Nelson and Texas Wesleyan last weekend and while the Drovers put up a very tough fight against both teams, the Lady Lions pulled out the 3-1 win in the Friday match before the Lady Rams grounded out two close sets in a three-set sweep on Saturday.
    • While Science & Arts has been relatively pedestrian in its attack in Sooner Athletic Conference play, posting the eighth-best hitting percentage (.155) with the seventh-most kills per set (12), where the Drovers excel is in blocking. USAO is one of only three teams in the conference that are averaging more than two blocks per set (2.05, 3rd) and are also decent in-service, posting the sixth-most aces at 1.77 per set.
    • Senior Morgan Kobe has paced that blocking scheme with the second-most blocks per set in the league at 1.13. On the outside, Chloe Conover has been a swiss army knife for the Drovers, leading the attack with 185 kills at 2.57 per seton a .190 hitting percentage. However, her defense has also been very good, averaging 0.72 blocks per set and 1.81 digs per set.
    • While the Drovers have flirted with the 6-2 setter rotation, USAO has competed more out of a 5-1 rotation led by Ytzel Garcia, who is averaging 7.32 assists per set while leading the SAC in aces per set (0.61). In the back row, Brynlee Birney leads the way with the fourth-most digs per set in the league at 4.11.
    • The last time the two teams squared off down in Chickasha on Sept. 3, it was a defensive slugfest as both teams hit for a .145 hitting percentage, the Evangels were able to take advantage of some rough serving by the Drovers as MACU outscored USAO 22-13 from the line to win three close sets, including a third that resulted in a 31-29 win. Despite the tough offensive night, the Evangels got two strong performances from Seyi Atolagbe and Alica Obusekova, as Atolagbe posted eight kills on a .471 hitting clip and Obusekova tallied a team-high 10 kills on a .292 rate.
Langston
  • Record: 9-13 (5-8 SAC)
  • Last Match: Lost vs. Oklahoma City – 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-18) – Oct. 9, 2025 – Langston, Okla.
  • Series vs MACU (2013-): MACU leads 17-3
  • Last Match vs MACU: MACU won 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-12) – Sept. 6, 2025 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Series Streak: MACU won 16
  • Players to Watch:
    • Ayana Moore – FR – OH/OPP
      • 181 Kills (2.35 K/S), .093 ATK%, 19 Aces (0.25 SA/S), 172 Digs (2.23 D/S), 38 Blocks (0.49 B/S)
    • Teia Woodson – SR – MH/OPP
      • 181 Kills (2.32 K/S), .264 ATK%, 43 Blocks (0.55 B/S)
    • Meagan Anderson – JR – S
      • 445 Assists (5.93 A/S), 103 Digs (1.37 D/S)
    • Leah McCall – JR – L
      • 311 Digs (3.99 D/S), 24-348 RE-R (.931 RCV%), 26 Aces (0.33 SA/S)
  • Team Notes:
    • Much like the Evangels, Langston has also hit a bit of a slump in the midway portion of the conference slate as the Lady Lions have lost six of their last eight matches, most recently coming off being swept in straight sets against Oklahoma City inside C.F. Gayles Field House on Saturday. Both of LU's victories came against Southwestern Christian.
    • Langston has been challenged to get the attack going as the Lady Lions rank third-to-last in the SAC in hitting percentage, posting a .111 hitting percentage against SAC foes. However, despite the offensive struggles, LU has been relatively decent in the defense, holding its opponents to a .154 hitting clip in league play while posting the fourth-best blocks per set rate in the conference at 1.96.
    • Teia Woodson and Ayana Moore have carried a bulk load of Langston's attack with each recording 181 kills this season while Woodson from the middle is mashing a solid .264 attack rate.
    • Meagan Anderson paces the passing game with a team-high 445 assists, averaging 5.93 per set while Leah McCall is one of the SAC's best in the back row, ranking second in the league in total digs (311) and fifth in digs per set (3.99).
    • After Langston won three of the first ever meetings between the two teams, Mid-America Christian has strung together an incredible win streak with the Evangels winning 16 straight since the 2016 campaign. When the two teams last faced off inside the Gaulke Activity Center, the Evangels were defensively dominant, holding Langston to a -.008 hitting percentage while cruising to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-12 win.
