Volleyball Makes Way to McPherson to Take on Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – After playing a pair of midweek games, the MACU Volleyball team will be seeking its third-straight win in five days as the Evangels prepare to take on Central Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday inside Holman Fieldhouse on the campus of McPherson College.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 12-10 (9-7 SAC)
  • Last Match: Won at Langston – 3-1 (25-19, 25-10, 18-25, 25-18) – Oct. 15, 2025 – Langston, Okla.
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • With the Evangels struggling to find road wins, entering Wednesday's match with just a 2-6 record on the road, Mid-America Christian was able to get its third in a tough Langston environment as MACU was able to come away with a 3-1 victory against a Lions squad that was 4-3 inside the C.F. Gayles Field House coming in.
    • One of the big reasons for the result was the hitting prowess from all across the net with outside hitter Alica Obusekova, middle blocker Seyi Atolagbe, and right-side hitter Marcela Nalin. The trio combined to score 42 kills on a .443 hitting percentage with Obusekova leading the charge with 18 terminations on a .438 rate. Atolagbe and Nalin each finished with 12 kills apiece with Atolagbe posting a .524 hitting percentage and Nalin notching a .385 clip.
    • With MACU leading just 18-17 late in set four, Ryley Bowden came up huge from the service line for the Evangels as she recorded four service aces to help spearhead a 7-1 run to close out the final set with a 25-18 victory.
    • The recent play of Nalin has helped MACU diversify its attack as the right side in the last two matches has recorded 22 kills on a very solid .302 hitting percentage.

  • Team Notes:
    • Since getting its first SAC win of the season at Southwestern Christian in a five-set thriller on Sept. 27, Central Christian has hit a rough patch by losing five-straight matches, most recently losing the rematch to the Eagles on Oct. 9 with a 3-1 defeat.
    • The Tigers have been challenged in the attack against SAC competition as CCCK ranks second-to-last in kills per set (9.13) and hitting percentage (.069). Offense has also been tough to come by from the service line as it also ranks third-to-last in the conference in aces per set (1.50). Central has also been challenged to slow down the other team's attack as opponents are averaging 11.68 kills per set on a .193 attack rate and scoring 2.78 aces per set.
    • Sydnie Jones has spearheaded the Tigers attack, being the only player on the team averaging more than two kills per set (2.80) on a .120 hitting percentage. Maddie Nix leads the 5-1 setter rotation, dishing out the fourth-most assists per set in the SAC at 7.69.
    • Alysen Harris is the team's leader in the back row, shoveling 220 digs at a 3.55 per set average while Alysa Johnson has been the team's best front row blocker, rejecting 28 swings for a 0.51 per set average.
    • Mid-America Christian has dominated the all-time series since the two squads started facing each other in 2011, winning 17 of the first 18 meetings. The last time they met inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Sept. 5, the Evangels handed CCCK its worst loss of the season, holding it to a season-low 11 kills on a -.106 hitting percentage to come away with a 25-11, 25-6, 25-12 victory. MACU was balanced across the board with four players totaling six or more kills and each one hitting for an above .300 hitting percentage.
