Volleyball Glides Past Golden Eagles in Straight Sets

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Volleyball's well-rounded offense was on full display as six players finished with six or more kills in the Evangels win over John Brown on Friday night inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

TOP PERFORMERS MATCH SUMMARY
  • Set One
    • John Brown jumped out to an early 5-1 lead through kills from three different hitters, and an ace to start the match from Tessa Burton. However, MACU stormed back winning the next six rallies as a pair of kills came from Casady McKinney, as well as a massive block from Seyi Atolagbe and Alica Obusekova.  
    • Errors racked up towards the mid-point of the first set as the Golden Eagles cut the lead to 11-10. But a kill from Mia Benson followed by a Sydney Martin ace restored the four-point advantage at 16-12.
    • The Golden Eagles responded by winning eight of the next nine points to take their lead to 20-17. The Evangels pushed back by going on a four-point run, as Marcela Nalin's termination forced a timeout from JBU.
    • John Brown jumped back in front at 24-23, but MACU closed the set out with consecutive Benson kills, and a massive ace from Martin to win 26-24.
  • Set Two
    • The Evangels won the opening three points with another ace from Martin. However, John Brown followed with six consecutive points enforced by three Kate Carlson kills.
    • McKinney added an ace which was followed by consecutive Nalin terminations to regain the MACU lead at 13-11. The Evangels ran away with the set at the mid-point as Obusekova's offense sparked a run as MACU led 21-14.
    • Madi Trayler closed out the set with a monstrous kill as MACU took the second set 25-19.
  • Set Three
    • Both offenses were on full display in a competitive start to the set as Carlson had a pair of kills for the Golden Eagles, responded by a pair of terminations from Trayler tying the set at 5-5.
    • The set tied at 10-10, saw its first point streak with the Evangels winning three consecutive through a kill from Benson. The Evangels maintained a three-point lead until the latter stages of the set where JBU got back within one at 21-20 with a kill from Federica Ferrari.  
    • MACU closed out the match strong through a kill from Ryley Bowden, and the final termination coming from McKinney to close out a stellar night and taking the final set 25-22.
MATCH NOTES
  • MACU finished with a slight edge in kills at 41-38 over JBU, and a better hitting percentage at .260% to the Golden Eagles' .219%.
  • Mia Benson and Casady McKinney led the Evangels in offense with eight kills apiece, while four more players tallied six terminations putting on display MACU's well-rounded offense.
  • Casady McKinney and Madison Lee split distribution efforts with 17 and 13 assists. McKinney finished with seven digs to go along with a pair of service aces.  
  • On the defensive side, Ryley Bowden and Alica Obusekova had 11 digs to lead the back row, while Sydney Martin added eight. Obusekova led blocking with three, followed by two from Benson.
