Women’s Soccer Prepared for Battle with Nelson

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Soccer remains at home and set to face Nelson, in pursuit of a return to the win column on Tuesday afternoon for a 5 pm kickoff at the Dill Soccer Field.

    • Mid-America Christian is coming off a highly physical match against No. 21 Science & Arts in a 1-1 draw. Liv Houlston opened the scoring for the Evangels as they took a lead into halftime. However, an early second-half equalizer from the Drovers settled the match with a point apiece.
    • MACU sits fourth in Sooner Athletic Conference standings on five points with a 1-0-2 conference record. The Evangels will face three of the top five teams in its first four conference games.   
    • Freshman Liv Houlston has remained to be the engine of the Evangel midfield, scoring goals in consecutive conference games, tallying four goals and two assists on the season. Brae Baker leads MACU in scoring with six goals, while firing 48 shots to see her second in the conference.

Daisy Altamirano, who leads Nelson with 10 goals on the season, scored three goals in that two-game stretch. However, the Lions endured their first conference loss on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State in a 4-1 game, where they faced a 4-0 deficit at halftime.
    • Nelson is second in the Sooner Athletic Conference in goals and shots scoring 40 on 212 shots. Senior forward Altamirano has tallied 22 points, including four goals in three conference games. She leads the SAC with 10 goals, while sitting in the top three in points and shots with 41.
    • Freshman midfielder Daisy Ruiz is second in the league with six assists, while starting every match and racking up 852 minutes played for the Lions.
    • The Lions have recorded five shutouts behind freshman goalkeeper Delaney Murphy who has a 5-1-1 record, totaling 26 saves on a .703 save percentage.
    • The Evangels and Lions will be facing off for the 22nd time, as MACU holds a dominant all-time record at 19-2. Mid-America Christian won in the previous meeting 3-2 on Oct. 26, 2024, in Waxahachie, Texas. Gladis Avalos scored an 88th minute winner in a tightly contested game to extend the Evangels win streak over the Lions to 10 straight.
