Women’s Basketball Set for Clash against Stephens, LSUS in COFO Lady Cat Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team travels to Point Lookout, Mo. to play in the COFO Lady Cat Classic, as the Evangels face Stephens on Friday evening tipping off at 5 p.m. Followed by one of the NAIA's featured Games of the Week against LSU Shreveport on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. tipoff.

    • Mid-America Christian have won three consecutive games inside the Gaulke Activity Center after suffering a loss in its season-opener. The Evangels finished 2-0 at the MACU Classic, including dominant wins over Cottey and Mission.
    • Senior guard Talayah Thomas leads the Evangels in scoring with 67 total points, averaging 16.8 points per game. Thomas is coming off a career-high 29 points in the win against Mission last weekend.
    • The Evangels have dominated the glass this season recording 163 total rebounds, and 63 on the offensive side. MACU grabbed a season-high 24 offensive rebounds against Mission, including nine from Caitlynn Jordan and seven from Taliah Lee.

    • Senior Guard LaiJanique Perry-Ellis is the focal point for the Stars team, as she leads the team in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Perry-Ellis' 90 points this season averages her to 18 points per game. She scored 20 points in her last two games against No. 2 Bethel (Tenn.) and No. 3 Campbellsville (Ky.). In the Stars win against William Woods, Perry-Ellis scored a season-high 28 points, finishing 5-5 from 3 pt, and recorded seven assists and six rebounds.
    • Turnovers have been the issue for the Stars this season, they turned the ball over at least 21 times in each of their four losses this season.
    • This is the first meeting all-time between MACU and Stephens.

    • The Pilots average 74 points per game, shooting just over 40% as a team. However, they have dominated the glass averaging 16 offensive rebounds a game, and 18.5 team assists per game.
    • The Evangels and Pilots will meet for the fourth time this weekend with MACU holding a 3-0 all-time record against LSUS. All three meetings have finished by single-digit margins, with the Evangels winning the previous meeting at home 62-59 on Nov. 4, 2022.
