Men’s Basketball Heads to Hesston in Last Dress Rehearsal before SAC Play

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Men's Basketball team will head to Hesston for its last non-conference game before the start of Sooner Athletic Conference play as the Evangels will take on the Larks for a 5 p.m. tip-off inside the Yost Center.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 4-0
  • Last Game: Won vs. Randall (Okla.) – 89-53 – Nov. 6, 2025 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian is seeing its first action in 11 days as the Evangels last contest came in an 89-53 home win over Randall inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Nov. 6.
    • Currently, the Evangels are off to one of their best starts in program history as MACU is outscoring its opposition by 33.5 points per game through the first four games. The disparity is due in-large part to a scoring offensive averaging 93.8 ppg on a 50.8 shooting percentage, including 36.6 percent from three and 77.9 percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, the defense is holding its opponents to 60.3 ppg on 33.8 percent shooting and 27.0 percent from three.
    • Impressively, the tandem of Morris Williams and Shannon Strickland have been a big reason for MACU's success as both players are shooting better than 58 percent from the field and 52 percent from three with Morris averaging 20.0 ppg and Strickland 14.8 per contest. Not only are they scoring in volume, but doing so in limited minutes as no player on the squad is averaging more than 25 minutes per contest.
    • On the defensive side, Clance Crosby has wreaked havoc in the paint, rejecting eight shots for a 2.0 blocks per game average. As a result, the senior forward has already collected one SAC Defensive Player of the Week nod.

  • Team Notes:
    • Despite losing by 20 or more points in seven of its first 10 games of the season, Hesston is coming off one of its best performances on Saturday after suffering only a 115-107 home loss to Science & Arts.
    • The biggest issue the Larks have faced since becoming an NAIA institution this year is the defense as HC is allowing 94.6 points per game, which ranks as the 11th-worst in the NAIA with the opposition shooting 53.2 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range. Offensively, the Larks are averaging just 72.0 ppg on a 39.7 percent shooting clip and going 29.7 percent from downtown. HC has also struggled on the glass, being outrebounded by 17.6 rpg.
    • Trent Thompson has led a balanced scoring effort by HC, averaging 10.8 ppg on a solid 48.5 percent shooting and is so averaging 5.8 rpg. Brycten Harris has been a solid sixth man for Hesston as well, averaging 10.0 ppg on a sensational 55.9 percent shooting clip, which includes a blistering 58.8 percent from range.
    • The matchup marks the first ever meeting between the two programs with Hesston moving from a junior college to a four-year institution this year.
