Women’s Basketball Opens SAC Play at Southwestern Christian, Hosts Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team enters Sooner Athletic Conference play winning five games in a row as the Evangels face a pair of Oklahoma City rivals by traveling to Southwestern Christian on Thursday evening for a 6 p.m. tipoff. Followed by hosting Oklahoma City, Saturday afternoon tipping off at 2 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

    • After the Evangels suffered a loss in their season-opener on the road at Friends (Kan.), MACU has rattled off five consecutive wins including its best performance thus far in a 79-40 win against LSU Shreveport (La.), who was voted top 25 in preseason polls and are receiving votes, on Saturday afternoon. The Evangels went undefeated in the COFO Lady Cat Classic last weekend.
    • Senior guard Talayah Thomas leads the Evangels in scoring with 80 total points, averaging 13.3 points per game. Sincere Roberts has been a steady offensive choice as well averaging 12 ppg, with 72 total points.  
    • The Evangels have found form in their excellent defense with 87 team steals in six games, averaging 14.5 steals per game. MACU has dominated the offensive glass with 89 offensive rebounds, as Caitlynn Jordan and Roberts lead the way with 18 and 17.

    • Southwestern Christian entered Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 record, as the Eagles moved to 1-0 quickly in conference with a home win over Oklahoma City, 77-56. Chrissen Harland led SCU in scoring with 23 points to go along with six rebounds, as she knocked down three triples.
    • Senior forward Kaydrin Scott leads the Eagles in points with 84 total points, averaging just under 17 points per game. Scott is efficient shooting the ball at 55%, while shooting 90% from the free throw line. Scott's season-high came in their lone loss at Benedictine (Kan.), she finished with 25 points and seven boards.  
    • SCU has found offensive success in the paint as the Eagles have only made 25 three-pointers in five games, shooting the 3-ball at 24.8%. However, the Eagles have been excellent as a team from the free throw line and inside the paint.
    • The Evangels and Eagles will be meeting for the 44th time, as the crosstown rivals have faced off every year since the 2002/03 season. MACU has won three consecutive against SCU, including an 84-65 win last season where Kylee Scheer had a career-high 32 points.

Ellie Willard was the only double-digit scorer in the loss, as she finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
    • OCU faces Science and Arts (Okla.) on Thursday evening in Chickasha, Okla. before traveling to the Gaulke Activity Center Saturday afternoon.
    • OCU are led on the offensive side by sophomore guard Ellie Willard with 93 points on the season, averaging 18.6 points per game. Williard has shot the three-ball well this season at 38%. Her season-high of 30 points came against Ottawa (Ariz.) where she also finished with seven rebounds and four assists.
    • The Stars average just under 75 points a game. However, their season struggles have come on the defensive side allowing over 78 ppg, with low steal and block counts for the interior defense. OCU has struggles on the offensive side averaging 18.6 turnovers per game, facing a -6 turnover margin per game.
    • The Evangels and Stars have faced off many times as OCU holds a substantial all-time record at 33-6. However, MACU enters the contest on a hot streak winning three consecutive games against OCU, including a 70-54 win last season inside the Gaulke Activity Center. Kylee Scheer scored a game-high 29 points in the Evangels win against the Stars in the last meeting.
