Women’s Soccer Tussles Talladega in First Round of NAIA Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Soccer travels to Bartlesville, Okla. to face Talladega (Ala.) in the first round of the NAIA Tournament on Thursday evening, Nov. 20, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

    • Mid-America Christian were knocked out of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament by the eventual champions and top-seeded John Brown in a tightly contested 2-1 match in Siloam Springs, Ark. The Evangels conceded an early goal in the 12th minute, but Brae Baker scored her 16th goal of the season in the 69th minute to equalize the semifinal. However, MACU conceded with three minutes remaining to end their SAC tournament run.  
    • Brae Baker leads the Evangels in scoring this season with 16, leading the SAC in goals and shots. Baker scored 10 goals against conference opponents in the regular season and tournament combined. She leads the Evangels in total points with 36.
    • Liv Houlston continues to be the engine of the Evangel midfield to lead the Evangels in assists with seven. Houlston tallied five goals to record 17 points on the year.  
    • Ariana Solorio enters the NAIA Tournament with a 7-3-3 record. Solorio finished with 61 saves for a .803 save percentage.
    • Mid-America Christian is making its second consecutive appearance to the NAIA Tournament, as the Evangels lost in the first round to Xavier (La.) 1-0, in Hattiesburg, Miss.

    • Talladega qualified for the NAIA Tournament through its HBCUAC Tournament win defeating Huston Tillotson 3-1 in the Final on Nov. 7. The Tornados scored two goals in 18 seconds inside of 12 minutes and continued the domination in route to a conference championship.
    • On the offensive side, senior forward Annalisa Vincent scored 28 goals in eight games and tallied 9 assists for 65 total points. Vincent scored 13 goals on Oct 6th vs Oakwood and a pair of six goal matches against Blue Mountain Christian and Tougaloo.   
    • The Tornados are led defensively by freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Johnson who's made 30 saves this season allowing 3.47 goals against. Johnson has four shutouts in eight games.  
    • This is the first all-time meeting between the Evangels and Tornados as the teams meet in the First Round of the NAIA Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla.
