Women’s Soccer Opposes Oklahoma Wesleyan in Second Round of NAIA Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Soccer travels to Bartlesville, Okla. to face the No. 5 team in the country Oklahoma Wesleyan in the NAIA Tournament Second Round on Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. kickoff.

    • Mid-America Christian dominated its First Round match 6-0 against Talladega on Thursday evening to advance the Evangels to the Second Round. The Evangels scored three first half goals, then two more to open the second half to run away with the match.
    • Brae Baker leads the Evangels in scoring this season with 16, leading the SAC in goals and shots. Baker scored 10 goals against conference opponents in the regular season and tournament combined. She leads the Evangels in total points with 36.
    • Freshman midfielder Liv Houlston added another assist to her season total on Thursday night, she leads the team with eight assists, while totaling 20 points only behind Baker.
    • Ariana Solorio made one save in Thursday night's win, as she added a fourth shutout to her season total.
    • Mid-America Christian won its first NAIA Tournament game in program history on Thursday night in the win over Talladega, as the Evangels enter unchartered territory for the first time on Saturday afternoon.

    • Oklahoma Wesleyan starts its NAIA Tournament after a perfect 13-0 conference record and defeating Friends in a penalty shootout to claim the KCAC Tournament title.
    • The Eagles are the best defensive team in the country, allowing just four goals against all season, including just one goal against in the last 16 games. OKWU has outscored its opponents by a 78-4 margin this season.
    • On the offensive side, senior forward Laura Gieseler scored 21 goals to lead the KCAC in goals, points, and shots during the season. The Eagles had three players finishing in the top five in the conference in goals as Kylie Reif and Frederiekke Nielsen finished with 12 and 10 goals. The 78 team goals scored by OKWU this season sees them top 10 in NAIA for goals.
    • The Eagles are led defensively by the best statistical goalkeeper in the country. Sophomore goalie Alessandra Martinez has allowed a country best two goals against, with a .12 goals against average, and a .947 save percentage. Martinez has maintained an undefeated record at 16-0-2, while recording 17 clean sheets in 19 games.
    • This is the fifth all-time meeting between the Evangels and the Eagles. MACU and OKWU last met on Sept 4, 2021, on a neutral venue in Siloam Springs, Ark. where the Eagles came away victories in a 2-1 game.
