Women’s Basketball Returns to Action against Langston, Home vs Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team returns from Thanksgiving break to face No. 11 Langston on Tuesday evening at a neutral sight venue tipping off at 6 p.m. inside the FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla. The Evangels host the Tigers of Central Christian Thursday evening at the Gaulke for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

    • Mid-America Christian has rounded into form in the early stages of the season winning seven in a row after suffering a loss in the season-opener. The Evangels sit joint top of the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 2-0 record with a pair of crosstown rival wins over Southwestern Christian and Oklahoma City.
    • Junior forward Caitlynn Jordan leads the Evangels in scoring and rebounding averaging 13 ppg and eight rebounds. Jordan recorded her second double-double of the season last time out against Oklahoma City in the 14-point win before the break.
    • MACU continues to dominate defensively with 105 total steals, averaging just over 13 a game. The Evangels have gelled nicely offensively as well with 16.5 assists per game, led by Monique Carter and Mia Smith with four and three assists per game.

    • Langston enters undefeated in the young season with three conference wins on the road all by double-digit margins. The Lions have impressed on the defensive side allowing just 45 points per game in conference play. Langston's last match was against Haskell Indian Nations last weekend where the Lions blew them out at home.
    • Senior guard Areyanna Hunter leads the Lions in scoring with 103 total points averaging just under 15 points per game. Hunter also leads the team in steals on the defensive side with three and half per game. She scored a season-high 24 against Loyola with four three pointers, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.    
    • The Lions enjoy playing fast through their defensive strengths with 14 steals per game. Langston leads the conference in points allowed with 48 points against in eight games. However, offensively, turnovers have been a reoccurring issue averaging 16 a game.
    • The Evangels hold a 10-7 all-time record against the Lions. However, Langston has knocked off MACU three consecutive games including all three games last year. The previous matchup took place at Langston in the SAC Tournament Championship where the Lions clinched the conference title with a 64-54 win.

    • Central Christian jumped to an early season start with a 2-0 record but have slipped into conference play with a 4-5 record, and 0-3 in conference. However, the Tigers started their season with three of the top SAC teams entering Thursday evening's clash.
    • The Tigers are led in all statistical categories by Junior guard Chloe Clevenger who averages just under 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists a game. Clevenger has a pair of 23-point games to start the season in wins over Cottey (Mo.) and Randall (Okla.). She has one double-double this season against Southwestern (Kan.) finishing with 21 points and 12 boards.
    • Central is another team that enjoys a fast-paced game as the Tigers get up a conference high number of three-pointers. They've had early success in cashing in points from deep averaging nine three-pointers made a game. However, the Tigers have been plagued by turnovers with 23 a game in conference play and allowing 14 opposing offensive rebounds, which is bottom in both categories throughout the conference.
    • The Evangels hold a substantial all-time record margin at 24-2, winning 22 consecutive games over the Tigers dating back to Jan. 21, 2006, the last time Central Christian defeated MACU.
