Women’s Basketball Drops Final Game of 2025 to Drovers 69-66

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Basketball battled against conference leaders Science & Arts down the stretch but couldn't close the deal as the Evangels lose a second consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference game to close out the 2025 calendar year in a 69-66 game on Tuesday night inside the Gaulke.

SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 66, Science & Arts 69
    • Mid-America Christian: (10-3, 5-2 SAC)
    • Science & Arts: (9-2, 6-1 SAC)
TOP PERFORMERS GAME SUMMARY
  • First Quarter
    • MACU took its first lead on its opening possession with a three knocked down by Caitlynn Jordan. However, this sparked an 11-0 USAO run as the Drovers heated up from behind the arc.
    • Taliah Lee responded with a three of her own to cut the deficit to nine heading into the media timeout. But once again, the Drovers had answers from deep as consecutive triples gave USAO a 12-point lead with three minutes to play in the quarter.
    • Aniya Smith cut the lead to single digits on the last offensive possession of the quarter, but it was the six three-pointers from the Drovers that stole the first quarter headlines as MACU trailed 30-22.
  • Second Quarter
    • Aniya Smith canned a second triple in as many attempts as the Evangels tried to claw back into the half. However, it was immediately responded by Evangelia Davlakou for her fifth triple in six attempts to put the Drovers back up eight.
    • Scoring was harder to come by in the second as both defenses turned up the heat and forced the offense to earn points from the free throw line. Mia Smith shot the Evangels back into the half with a big three-pointer on the final possession to grab momentum going into the halftime intermission down 39-32.
  • Third Quarter
    • Lee catapulted MACU right back into the contest with a triple on the opening possession. Then slashed the deficit to one just two and a half minutes into the quarter with a transition three off a Mia Smith steal.
    • The Drovers continued to play tough, finding the right answers offensively to keep their noses in front. However, Lee squared the game up at 44 with a corner three, then went coast-to-coast with a steal and a fastbreak layup to pull the Evangels back in front at 46-44 with four minutes remaining in the quarter.
    • USAO accepted the fight back and closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to snatch its lead right back as the Evangels faced a 54-48 deficit going into the last.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • The USAO lead grew as big as 10 at the final media timeout in the fourth quarter. Mia Smith found the bottom from deep, but it was immediately responded by the Drovers on the other end.
    • MACU strung together a few stops, while Jordan went on an 8-0 solo run to will the Evangels back into the contest. Jordan hit consecutive threes with three minutes left, then got out in transition for the easy layup off the Aniya Smith steal to cut the lead to 67-66.
    • However, the offensive well ran dry for MACU as they were unable to knock down any shots down the stretch, and a pair of clutch free throws were knocked down by the Drovers to seal the game and hand MACU a second consecutive SAC loss by a final score of 69-66.
GAME NOTES
  • MACU finished 23-54 (42.6%) from the field, a good night from three with 12-30 (40%) and converted 8-of-9 (88.9%) free throws. The Drovers shot 23-57 (40.4%) from the field, a ballistic 11-22 (50%) from behind the arc, and 12-13 (92.3%) from the free throw line.
  • Caitlynn Jordan led the Evangels' offense with 17 points off 7-12 from the field with three triples. Three other Evangels finished in double-digit scoring as Taliah Lee had 14 points, 4-7 from 3pt. Mia Smith contributed 13 points, and Sincere Roberts chipped in 10.
  • Both teams finished well over their season average in turnovers as MACU committed 23, and USAO 22. The Evangels held a slight edge with a 20-18 margin with points off turnovers. Monique Carter had a team-high four steals, while Mia Smith had three of her own.
  • Mid-America Christian suffered consecutive losses in conference play to fall to 5-2. However, the Evangels are still in a good spot going into the new year with a joint third position, just one game back out of the top spot.
  • MACU still hold a 27-18 all-time record against USAO, however, this Drovers win snaps a seven game MACU win streak.
