PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian outslugged York 16-3 behind tying a season-high in hits with 15 while allowing nine to the Panthers. The Evangels crushed four homers which played nine of the 16 runs. MACU pieced together nine extra-base knocks while holding York to just three.
  • York got on the board first in the top of the first on a solo shot to center off the bat of Ian Heck, MACU quickly grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run blast to center by Noel McGarry-Doyle.
  • The Evangels extended their lead to 5-1 in the following inning, Payton Matthews led off the frame with a strikeout on a dropped third strike, Panthers first basemen Ian Heck was unable to handle the throw allowing Matthews to reach safely. The next two Evangels were retired, however Zachary Stark and D'Andre Gaines walked to load up the bases for Cristopher Munoz, who then came through with a two-out bases clearing double to extend the lead to 5-1. After McGarry-Doyle singled to make it first-and-third, Munoz scored on a passed ball to make it 6-1. MACU was not done in the inning, Jonluke Hobdy banged one off the right-field fence scoring McGarry-Doyle to boost the MACU lead to 7-1.
  • Ian Heck connected for his second homer of the contest to give the Panthers a run back in the top of the third.
  • Carlos Medina smashed a solo-homer down the left-field line to make it a 8-2 game in the bottom of the third, the Evangels added two more in the inning on a pair of RBI singles by Gaines and Munoz to carry a 10-2 lead into the fourth.
  • In the bottom half of the fourth the MACU offense kept the foot on the gas, plating six runs with all six coming via homers. Brett Justice smashed a two-run bomb in the left-center gap, and with the bases juiced Jesse Ortega on the first pitch he has seen this season crushed a no-doubt grand slam over the left-field scoreboard to blow the game open with a 16-2 lead for Mid-America Christian.
  • York pushed across another in the top of the fifth to make it 16-3 where things would ultimately hold up. Evangels starter Gabriel Dixon departed after five innings allowing senior-righty Andrew Long to toss up two scoreless innings of work to provide MACU with a 16-3 win.
  • Cristopher Munoz led the charge becoming the seventh player in MACU history to record at least five hits in a game, he fell one short of the Yan Adames' and Isiah Leon's record of six. Munoz went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a pair of runs and four runs batted in.
  • The Evangels saw four other starters with multi-hit games, D'Andre Gaines, Jonluke Hobdy, Carlos Medina, and Noel McGarry-Doyle all finished with two hits, all four recorded at least one extra-base hit. Justice, Medina and McGarry-Doyle all added on homers.
  • Jesse Ortega could not have asked for a better first at bat, in the first and only pitch he has seen this season he placed it over the wall for a grand slam finishing the contest 1-for-1 with four runs batted in.
  • Carlos Medina extended his hit streak to ten with his 2-for-3 game.
  • 15 hits on the day tied a season high for MACU, they also pieced together 15 hits in the 19-9 win over Randall on Feb. 4.
  • Gabriel Dixon logged another solid outing, he brings his win-loss record to 2-1 behind five innings allowing three runs, (two earned) six hits, fanning seven and walking one.
  • Andrew Long tossed two innings of shutout ball allowing three hits and striking out four.
  • D'Andre Gaines has now reached base in 13-of-14 games this season while hitting safely in 11.
  • MACU draws the all-time record against York to 2-0, with the last matchup being played on Feb. 15, 2015.

  • Brock Cordes worked his third scoreless inning of the game while picking up a pair of strikeouts to bring his total to six through the first three frames.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Panthers threatened loading the bases with one-down, but Cordes beared down, picking up a 6-3 double play off the bat of Ryan Romero to keep it 2-0 in favor of MACU.
  • Jonluke Hobdy led off the fourth with a line-drive solo blast over the left-center field wall to extend the lead to 3-0. Brett Justice followed up the homer with a liner in the right-center and later scored on a two-out liner up the middle by Giordany Mendoza to make it 4-0 Evangels.
  • York strung together four runs in the top half of the fifth to knot things up at a 4-4 score.
  • MACU reclaimed the lead right back in the bottom of the fifth, Gaines led off the inning with a chopper to third and reached via a throwing error by Jose Martinez. Cristopher Munoz then doubled Gaines home on a two-bagger in the left-center gap to put MACU up 5-4. With a runner in scoring position and one-away McGarry-Doyle lasered one over the left field wall to put the Evangels up 7-4.
  • In the top of the sixth the Panthers put the first two on base after back-to-back popups landed in the outfield grass, the runners advanced to scoring position on a passed ball and both scored on a single by Bryce Gorecki to cut the MACU lead to 7-6. In his first appearance out the bullpen, Fabian Hernandez settled in by picking-off Panther's pinch runner Nathan Eisenmenger at first and getting the next two Park hitters to strikeout preserving the 7-6 edge.
  • In the bottom of the seventh the Evangels added on a pair of runs, Justice led off the inning with his third double of the contest, finding the outfield grass in the left-center field hole. Matthews then singled to set up a first-and-third scenario, Matthews swiped second and Medina brought home a run on a sac fly to center. Zachary Stark stepped up with a runner on third and two-dead, coming up clutch for a stand-up double on a ball off the left-center field fence bringing MACU up 9-6.
  • After a pair of walks to McGarry-Doyle and Jonluke Hobdy, Justice continued his legacy game tripling to right-center for his fourth extra-base hit of the game scoring Hobdy and McGarry-Doyle adding on some insurance for the Evangels with an 11-6 advantage. Matthews tagged on another run on a sac fly to right scoring pinch-runner Jojo Nieves to make it 12-6 in favor of the Evangels.
  • Hernandez allowed another run in the ninth, but the Panthers did not put any more across allowing MACU to pull away with a 12-7 victory.
  • It was an incredible game for Brett Justice, in the fifth at bat he legged out a triple for his fourth extra-base hit of the ballgame, had he decided to stay at second it would have been the first MACU player ever to record four doubles in a game. Nonetheless Justice finished the day going 6-for-9 with three doubles, a triple and a homer with four RBIs.
  • Payton Matthews was the only other MACU hitter with more than one hit, he went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of stolen bags.
  • Brock Cordes and Fabian Hernandez racked up the strikeouts combining for 15 in 8.2 innings pitched. Cordes fought through an outing without having his best stuff, he logged 4.2 innings giving up three hits on three earned runs with five walks and striking out eight. Hernandez got the save, he went four innings in relief, allowing four hits, (two of which were popups that dropped in the outfield grass) and striking out seven.
  • Jordan Smith received the win for his first win of the year.
  • Jonluke Hobdy and Noel McGarry-Doyle banged a homer in game two, the duo both finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk.
  • Carlos Medina produced a sac fly for an RBI, but unfortunately did not record a hit seeing his hitting streak snap at ten games.
  • Getting some rest in game two, backstop Zachary Stark contributed for a clutch two-out RBI double in his lone plate appearance, his double banged off the wall just falling short of a two-run blast.
  • With the pair of victories MACU now holds a 3-0 advantage over York lifetime dating back to 2010.
  • The Evangels have now won five consecutive games dating back to Feb. 4.
