Men’s Basketball Takes on Texas Wesleyan in SAC Quarterfinal

OKLAHOMA CITY – After capturing the No. 3 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament in thrilling fashion at Wayland Baptist on Monday night, the MACU Men's Basketball team will welcome in No. 6 seed Texas Wesleyan for the second time in two weeks inside the Gaulke Activity Center for an 8 p.m. tip-off on Thursday night.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 21-7 (17-7 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won at Wayland Baptist – 69-68 – Feb. 24, 2025 – Plainview, Texas
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Facing off against a Wayland Baptist team in a contest where the stakes could not be higher, the Evangels spoiled the Pioneers Senior Night when Juwan White dribbled down the court and buried the game-winning three-pointer from the right wing with two seconds left to secure the 69-68 victory inside the Hutcherson Center on Monday night.
    • Entering the evening, it was a must-win game for MACU as it sat in a three-way tie with the Pioneers and John Brown for the No. 3 spot in the SAC standings. A loss and a Golden Eagles win would have knocked the Evangels down to the No. 5 seed and would have needed to play on the road in the SAC Quarterfinal. However, with MACU getting the win and JBU suffering a loss at UNT Dallas, the Evangels finished in a tie for second with Langston to garner the third seed in the conference tourney.
    • Since starting off the season with an 0-3 record on the road, the Evangels have become a much stronger team in road contests, boasting a 7-2 record in their last three games away from the Gaulke, which includes five of the last six. While MACU owns a 13-2 record at home, the Evangels will be seeking to avenge a loss to Texas Wesleyan in its last home matchup.
    • The win over the Pioneers also secured the second-straight season where the Evangels have won 21 regular season games and 17 SAC victories.

  • Team Notes:
    • Since suffering a home loss to John Brown on Feb. 6, Texas Wesleyan has been playing some strong basketball to close out the season, winning five of its last six games, most recently defeating Central Christian in a huge road contest by a score of 68-66 inside Jerry Alexander Arena on Feb. 22.
    • Texas Wesleyan along with MACU is one of just two teams in the SAC that rank in the top five in both scoring offense and scoring defense, posting the league's fifth-best offense (74.1 ppg) while ranking as the fourth-best scoring defense (67.3 ppg). Where the Rams have particularly excelled is on the glass, boasting the second-best rebounding margin in the conference at 8.1.
    • The Rams feature an incredibly balanced scoring lineup that has four players averaging in double-figures, led by senior guard Trey Sinegal (16.0 ppg) with junior forward Montez Young Jr. (14.6 ppg) and Richard Amaefuele (12.7 ppg) also being productive while shooting 47 percent or better from the field. Junior combo guard Vegas Evans has also been highly productive at 11.8 ppg while shooting 46.9 percent from the floor.
    • Mid-America Christian will be hoping the third time is the charm in Thursday night's rematch as Texas Wesleyan took both games in the season series with a 69-58 win in Fort Worth on Jan. 4 before spoiling MACU's Senior Day with a 70-68 victory inside the Gaulke on Feb. 15.
