No. 24 Women’s Basketball Set for Science & Arts in SAC Quarterfinal

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 24 MACU Women's Basketball team will have one more contest inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Thursday night as the third-seeded Evangels will host a Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinal contest against No. 6 seed Science & Arts for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 23-5 (19-5 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won at Oklahoma Panhandle State – 83-35 – Feb. 22, 2025 – Goodwell, Okla.
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian took care of business in its season finale at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday as the Evangels cruised to an 83-35 victory inside Anchor D Arena. In the win, the 35 points allowed by MACU goes down as the fifth-fewest allowed in a single game in the NAIA Era (2007-present) while the 48-point margin of victory was the largest that OPSU had given up inside its home venue this season.
    • The Evangels wrapped up the regular season with a 23-5 overall record and went 19-5 in SAC play to finish third in the league standings. It marked the third time in the last four years that the Evangels recorded 23 or more wins during the regular season while placing in the top four of the SAC standings for the sixth-straight year.
    • While senior guard Shy Christopher continued to pace the MACU offensive attack, leading the team with a 16.0 ppg scoring average, the Evangels feature a balanced offensive lineup with seven players averaging at least 6.0 ppg. Senior guard Kylee Scheer has particularly been one of the best players in the SAC all season as she is the only player in the SAC to rank in the top 10 in the conference in points (14.9, 10th), rebounds (6.9, 8th), assists (3.1, 8th) and steals (2.1, 3rd).
    • Since losing starting forward Harley Harbour in late January to a season-ending injury, senior forward Syncere Harrod has become an integral part of MACU's offensive attack as well as brought a stable defensive presence in the low block. Since that game against Langston on Jan. 20, Harrod has averaged 11.5 ppg and scored in double-figures in seven of the nine contests while shooting 53.1 percent from the floor and 74.1 percent from the foul line. On-top of averaging 4.3 rebounds per game, Harrod has also been a spark plug defensively rejecting eight shots and tallying 16 steals.

      • 193 Points (6.9 ppg), 72-153 FG (47.1%), 41-55 FT (74.5%), 187 Reb (6.7 rpg), 40 Assists (1.4 apg), 32 Steals (1.1 spg)
  • Team Notes:
    • While Science & Arts closed out its regular season by winning four of the last six, the Drovers two defeats came in its Senior Night contest against MACU at home on Feb. 13 in a 75-60 defeat before falling at Langston 63-49 in its season finale on Feb. 22.
    • The Drovers have been one of the best defensive teams in the SAC this season, ranking third in the conference in scoring defense (60.5 ppg) while holding its opposition to 36.0 percent shooting, including 28.3 percent from behind the arc. However, USAO has been a little more challenged on the offensive end, ranking in the middle of the pack in scoring offense (65.0, 7th).
    • The USAO offensive attack has primarily run through the skilled junior guard Evangelina Davlakou, who is the only Drover scoring in double-figures at 15.3 ppg on a 40.7 percent shooting clip and knocking down 28.0 percent from behind the arc.
    • Mid-America Christian has fared well against the Drovers over the last three seasons as MACU has won six-straight, sweeping the 2024-25 regular season slate with a 77-64 inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Jan. 2 before defeating USAO in Chickasha on Feb. 13. Thursday night's contest also marks the second-straight year that MACU and USAO will square off in the SAC Quarterfinal inside the Gaulke. In last year's meeting on Feb. 29, the Evangels rallied back from five down with just under two minutes left, closing out the contest with an 11-0 run to secure a thrilling 72-66 victory.
