No. 18 Baseball Wins Series Over USAO After Splitting Doubleheader

CHICKASHA, Okla.– The No. 18 MACU Baseball split the day in two highly competitive ball games, dropping game one to USAO 9-7, however the Evangels bounced back with a 10-5 victory in game three to achieve the series win, behind a solid outing from Angel Miranda and infielders Jacob Police and Carlos Medina leaving the yard.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Cristopher Munoz got things started with a one-out single through the left-side in the first, he then scored in the next at bat on a no-doubt two-run shot to center off the bat of Noel McGarry-Doyle, providing Mid-America Christian with an early 2-0 lead.
  • Munoz kept a hot stick, smashing a solo shot to left to lead off the third and extending the lead to 3-0.
  • In the bottom half of the fourth the Drovers tied it up at 3-3 on a three-run homer off the bat of senior first baseman Payton McDowall.
  • USAO continued to put up runs on the board, striking for another three-run blast this time off the bat of Corey Morro, providing the Drovers with its first lead of the day up 6-3 in the fifth.
  • Carlos Medina answered for the Evangels, sending a fastball over the left field fence, cutting the Science & Arts lead to 6-4 in the sixth. Jonluke Hobdy worked a walk, Giordany Mendoza singled to left, putting the tying run on first, and Taiga Sakuma walked to put the go-ahead runner on first, loading the bases with two outs and Munoz worked a free pass, allowing Hobdy to score and make it 6-5 in favor of USAO. McGarry-Doyle then executed a free pass of his own, getting hit-by-a-pitch plating Mendoza and tying it up at 6-6.
  • The Drovers rallied for three runs in the sixth, scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch and adding two more on a two-out two-RBI double to center by Christopher Martinez, putting USAO back on top with a 9-6 edge.
  • Carlos Medina blasted his second homer of the game to start off the seventh and D'Andre Gaines put the tying run in the box after doubling to left, however Rob Schmidt got out of the inning getting Mendoza to pop out to third and Jacob Police to groundout to short to wrap up a 9-7 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian outhit Science & Arts 11-8, but fell short in the scoring column with a 9-7 loss. The Drover took advantage of six walks issued by the Evangels staff, as the Drovers plated four runs that reached base via a walk.
  • USAO outscored MACU 9-4 from the fourth inning on, rallying for three consecutive three run frames from innings four through six.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle extended his hitting streak to 21 games, after missing his first game of the season last night due to an illness, he returned to the lineup today, battling through the flu for a gutsy 2-for-3 performance with three runs batted in including a homer.
  • Carlos Medina crushed a pair of solo shots, making it the first time he has homered twice in a game as an Evangel.
  • Cristopher Munoz extended his batting streak to eight, he put up two hits including a homer, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
  • MACU snapped its winning streak at six games with the loss in game one.

  • In the bottom half of the inning Science & Arts answered back with a solo blast of their own, with Devin Alvarez connecting for a homer to left, tying it up at 1-1.
  • Cristopher Munoz began the fourth with a sharply hit grounder to third that Ricky Requejo was unable to come up with, Munoz then went first-to-third on a stolen bag and overthrow, he then scored on a sac fly to left-center by Brett Justice that nearly left the yard for a three-run homer, nonetheless the sac fly tied things up at 1-1. With Noel McGarry-Doyle on first, reaching on a walk, he then scored on Carlos Medina's third homer of the day on a blast to left, putting MACU up 4-1.
  • MACU put a couple of runners on with walks to Police and Connor Thompson, however the Drovers turned to their bullpen, bringing in Kyler Denton, who retired the next three Evangel hitters and keeping the score at 4-1 in favor of the Evangels.

  • The Drovers pieced together a couple of runs on a two-run shot to left by Gunnar Hansen, cutting the MACU lead to 9-4 in the sixth.
  • MACU added an insurance run in the seventh on a Julian Martinez two-out single up the box, scoring pinch runner Taiga Sakuma and providing the Evangels with a 10-4 edge.

GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian outhit Science & Arts 8-5 while the Drovers made two errors to the Evangels none.
  • Carlos Medina continued to swing a hot bat, finishing the day with a 3-for-4 performance, including his third homer of the day, he added on a two-bagger as well. With three homers in the series, Medina set a new career-high in homers in a season with now eight, surpassing his previous record of six, in which he did last season.
  • Jacob Police also kept up his momentum in the dish, he drove in four, going 2-for-2 with two homers. It marked the third time Police has homered twice in a game three times during his time at MACU, including the second time he put up a multi-homer game against Science & Arts, as he crushed a pair in the 15-8 win in the semifinals of the SAC Conference Tournament back on May 6, 2024.
  • Brett Justice added a sac fly, he went 1-for-2 with a walk and RBI.
  • Giordany Mendoza put up a 1-for-3 game with a run driven in.
  • Senior utility man Julian Martinez added on clutch RBI single in his lone plate appearance.
  • Cristopher Munoz and Noel McGarry-Doyle both saw their hitting streaks come to an end, nonetheless they both provided a run for MACU.
  • Angel Miranda earned his fourth win of the season, he went 5.2 innings, holding USAO to just two runs on three hits on a pair of walks and five strikeouts.
  • Andrew Long got the last four outs on the mound for the Evangels, he tied Andrws Acosta for a team lead in appearances with 13.
  • Mid-America Christian takes the series for the second consecutive season over the Drovers.
