BETHANY, Okla. – No. 18 MACU Baseball dropped both games in the doubleheader against Southwestern Christian at Dolase Youth Park Saturday Afternoon.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Southwestern Christian capitalized after a couple of two-out free passes were issued on an error and a walk, allowing Joseph Boone to double home Dario Parades and Jhors Gomez, providing the Eagles with an early 2-0 lead the end of the first.
  • In the third Mid-America Chrisitan put up a run after Taiga Sakuma started the frame with a base hit up the middle, Cristopher Munoz followed up with a single of his own on a grounder through the right side that advanced Sakuma to third. D'Andre Gaines then lined out to right, allowing Sakuma to score and cut the SCU lead to 2-1.
  • MACU knotted it up at 2-2 in the fourth behind three singles, Giordany Mendoza started it up with a single up the box, Zachary Stark extended the inning with a two-out single to right, and Sakuma stepped up with a clutch RBI single on a grounder through the left side to score Mendoza.
  • Fabian Hernandez settled in on the bump, tossing three shutout innings following the two-run first, including stranding a pair of Eagles runners on in the third.
  • The Evangels captured the lead in the fifth behind two singles by Munoz and Gaines, setting up first and third for Carlos Medina, who executed a sac fly to right, providing MACU with a 3-2 advantage.
  • MACU added on a pair in the sixth, Mendoza lead it off with a two-bagger to left center, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Stark's base knock up the box. Dyson Kinnaman courtesy ran, stole second and got to third on a misplay on the pickoff attempt, he then scored on a sac fly to left off the bat of Sakuma, making it 5-2 Evangels.
  • SCU rallied for a five run sixth to take a 7-5 lead, the Eagles took advantage of four walks and an error while mixing in two hits in the process.
  • MACU went down in order in the seventh, providing Southwestern Christian with a 7-5 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian put up 10 hits while committing two errors while giving up eight hits. Southwestern Christian capitalized off 11 free passes issued by MACU. The Evangels walked eight which is a new season high, while hitting one with the two errors.
  • Taiga Sakuma was the main producer on offense, he went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and a pair of RBIs.
  • Giordany Mendoza also finished with two hits, he lead MACU with two runs, finishing 2-for-3, he had the only extra-base hit of the contest for MACU with his leadoff double in the sixth.
  • Cristopher Munoz went 2-for-3 with a run scored, he also stole a game-high of two bases.
  • Backstop Zachary Stark turned in a two-hit game, he went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Fabian Hernandez received the no-decision, he tossed five-plus innings allowing four runs (none earned) on seven hits, five walks and four strikeouts.
  • With the victory SCU snaps a six-game losing streak to MACU dating back to 2023.

GAME SUMMARY
  • It was a scoreless first two innings for both sides until the top of the third when Zachary Stark leadoff with a single to short, Payton Matthews courtesy ran for him and stole second. Cristopher Munoz brought him home on a single through the right side. Munoz swiped two and advanced to third on a single to left by D'Andre Gaines. With two-away, Munoz was sent home on a balk by Southwestern Christian's starting pitcher Elian Cuevas.
  • The Eagles tied it up at 2-2 in the back half of the inning, they did it on two hits and two hit batsmen, plating one on a groundout by Joseph Boone and an RBI single by Draike Starks.
  • SCU added three more in the fourth taking a 5-2 lead behind a bases clearing two-out double by Dario Parades.
  • The fifth inning consisted of another run on the board for Southwestern Christian on a Joey Thorton single up the middle that scored Elvis Rojas.
  • With the bases empty and two outs, Jacob Police and Carlos Medina came through with singles and advanced via a wild pitch, Giordany Mendoza then worked a walk, setting up the bases loaded for pinch-hitter Guillermo Velasco. Velasco drew the count full before seeing another out the zone for a walk, allowing Police to score and cut the SCU lead to 6-3.
  • MACU put the tying run in the box in the seventh behind a single by Gaines and a walk to Jonluke Hobdy, but Jacob Police grounded out to short to end the game.
GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian was outhit 9-7 by Southwestern Christian, MACU struck out 11 times compared to just four for SCU. The Evangels also stranded nine on base, as the Eagles left a lot on the base paths as well with 10.
  • It was the first game this season the Evangels have not had an extra-base hit in a game, marking an exact year since the last occurrence, in the 6-1 win over Wayland Baptist last season.
  • MACU did do a great job on the bases, stealing six bags, which fell one of the season-high that was posted in the 8-6 win over Central Christian back on Feb. 28.
  • D'Andre Gaines was the only MACU batter to record more than one hit, he went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
  • Cristopher Munoz reached base twice, he went 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and a walk.
  • Guillermo Velasco was the only other Evangel to record an RBI.
  • Gabriel Dixon got the loss, pushing his win-loss record to 4-2 on the season, he tossed 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits for five earned with two walks and two strikeouts.
  • With the pair of loses, MACU falls in the regular season series to SCU for the first time since 2021.
