GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian opened up the contest with a pair of walks to Taiga Sakuma and Cristopher Munoz, setting up a RBI single up the middle by Noel McGarry-Doyle to put the Evangels on the board. After going first to third on the single, Munoz later scored on a RBI groundout to short by Carlos Medina, making it 2-0 MACU.

  • Nelson put up the next three to tie it up, including a two-run homer off the bat of Josh Pinter in the third.
  • The Evangels responded with a two-run shot of their own, with Sakuma drilling one over the right field wall, scoring Giordany Mendoza and grabbing the lead back with a 5-3 advantage.
  • MACU starter Andrew Long settled back in with a scoreless fourth, in the fifth the Evangels plugged in two relievers in Luke Bourland and Ryan Smith to get the last two outs, Ryan Smith entered with first and third with two down and got Zeke Holder to lineout to second to retire the inning and keep the Lions off the board.
  • Gabriel Dixon was summoned upon in relief and worked his way around a single and a walk, getting a lineout and a pair of groundouts to escape the jam and keep MACU ahead with a 5-3 lead.
  • Dixon worked a 1-2-3 seventh, retiring his sixth straight Lions batter to pick up his first save of the season, wrapping it up with a 5-3 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian put up eight hits while giving up seven to Nelson, both teams committed an error, and the Evangels stranded six on base while the Lions left eight on the basepaths.
  • Taiga Sakuma led the offense, he went 1-for-2 with a homer, two runs and three batted in. Sakuma also swiped a base and walked to wrap up a great game one.
  • Carlos Medina and Noel McGarry-Doyle had identical stat lines, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Giordany Mendoza reached base three times via a single and a pair of walks, that allowed him to tie Sakuma for a game-high of two runs.
  • Andrew Long extended his team leading win total to seven, he went 4 and a third innings pitched, giving up three runs on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
  • Luke Bourland and Ryan Smith held the Lions off the board, combining for just .2 innings, however it was two crucial outs that led MACU to victory.
  • Gabriel Dixon entered out the bullpen for the first time this season, he picked up his first save after going two scoreless, giving up a hit, a walk and punching out one.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian came through with the opening run in the second after three out of four MACU hitters in Carlos Medina, Jonluke Hobdy and Giordany Mendoza loaded up the bases for Conner Thompson, who proceeded to watch four straight out the zone, picking up an RBI walk and giving MACU a 1-0 lead.
  • Nelson brought it back to a tied game on a solo homer by Dominick Padilla in the bottom half of the frame. The Lions threated to add on more by loading the bases with two outs, but MACU starter Andrws Acosta bared down, getting leadoff man Alex Ortiz out on a comebacker to end the inning.
  • The Evangels snatched the lead right back on back-to-back two-baggers by Cristopher Munoz and Noel McGarry-Doyle in the third, putting MACU ahead 2-1 after two and a half complete.
  • In the fourth MACU extended its lead to 5-1 behind a leadoff error on shortstop Dominick Padilla on a batted ball by Jonluke Hobdy, Mendoza walked and the pair got into scoring position on a passed ball. Taiga Sakuma picked up an RBI on a sac fly to left, Munoz then singled home Mendoza and scored on another McGarry-Doyle double.
  • Acosta battled back from a leadoff error to start off the fifth, picking up a double play in the process to keep the Evangels up 5-1.
  • Nelson strung across two runs in the sixth on a pair of walks, a double and a sac fly, cutting the MACU lead to 5-3.
  • Sakuma started the seventh seeing a free pass and advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt, setting up McGarry-Doyle to bring him home on a single. McGarry-Doyle then stole second and scored on a clutch two-out double by Carlos Medina, extending the lead to 7-3.
  • Nelson strung together three free passes in the seventh, and Xavien Thompson connected for a game-tying grand slam.
  • Ryan Smith tossed a scoreless eighth, stranding the game-winning run at second by getting a ground ball to second to end it.
  • MACU was unable to get anything going in the ninth, and Nelson started off the bottom half with a walk to Josh Pinter. Pinter shifted to second on a sac bunt and scored on a walk-off single by CJ Ricondo.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian pieced nine hits compared to seven for Nelson, the difference maker was nine walks allowed by the MACU staff and four of the seven Lions hits being for extra-bases.
  • MACU left five on the bases while Nelson stranded seven, the Evangels made one error while the Lions had four defensive mishaps.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle continued to swing a hot stick, he went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run, three RBIs and a two stolen bases.
  • Cristopher Munoz turned in a 2-for-4 game with two runs, a double, a RBI and walked.
  • Carlos Medina tacked on another multi-hit game, he went 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI.
  • Andrws Acosta had a strong debut as a starter, he got the no-decision after going five-plus innings on four hits, three runs, three walks and a strikeout.
