PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS
SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • It was a pitchers dual throughout the first five as Mid-America Christian did not get the first run of the game until the fifth frame.
  • MACU starting pitcher Brock Cordes cruised after allowing a single in the first, he then retired 12 of the next 13, keeping the Stars scoreless.
  • OCU starter Tanner Ellis went toe-to-toe with Cordes over the first four, it was not until the fifth with two outs and nobody on when Zachary Stark strung together a walk and was ran for by Dyson Kinnaman. Kinnaman swiped second and the throw by catcher Hunter Brown reflected off the glove of shortstop Ethan Rhodes and trickled into center, allowing Kinnaman to advance to third and later score on a wild pitch, providing the Evangels with a 1-0 lead.
  • In the sixth OCU put up back-to-back two out singles, but luckily enough the second single hit Rhodes as he was attempting to run to second, what would have been a base hit in the hole turned to the third out of the frame for the Evangels.
  • The Evangels extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom half of the sixth after Noel McGarry-Doyle stretched out an infield single and D'Andre Gaines blasted a towering shot over the right-center field wall.
  • Cordes capped off his fantastic outing with back-to-back punchouts, stranding a runner on first in the process and leaving with MACU ahead 3-0.
  • Andrew Long was inserted for the eighth and worked his way around a two out walk, getting Rhodes to fly out to right to retire the frame.
  • Gabriel Dixon then checked in and worked a 1-2-3 ninth on a pair of strikeouts, wrapping it up with a 3-0 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian connected for seven hits without committing an error and left five on the bases. Oklahoma City had just three singles, committed an error and stranded four.
  • Brock Cordes carried the Evangels on the bump, he logged seven shutout frames on three hits, a walk, a hit batsman and seven strikeouts. Cordes pushed his win-loss record to 5-2 on the season and has now allowed just one-run over his last 16 innings pitched across his last three outings.
  • D'Andre Gaines led the offense; he reached base three times and had the only two extra-base hits of the contest. Gaines banged a double, a homer and walked. Gaines with 12 blasts on the season is now just one shy of tying his career-high of 13.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle was the only other player to record multiple hits, he drilled a couple of singles, finishing the game 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Dyson Kinnaman used his legs to his advantage, he scored the opening run of the contest behind a stolen base, an error and scored on a wild pitch.
  • Gabriel Dixon turned in his second save of the season, he needed just 11 pitches to close it out with two punchouts attached.
