Men’s Track & Field to Travel to Texas for First Ever SAC Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Men's Track & Field team is making preparations to compete in its first ever Sooner Athletic Conference Championships as a program as this year's event will be hosted by Texas Wesleyan at Karen Cramer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas from Apr. 24-26.

EVENT SCHEDULE MEET NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian is coming off competing in the Pittsburg State Tune-Up back on Apr. 17 as the Evangels competed in the 800-meter and 1500-meter events.
  • In last week's 800-meter run, Mohamed Zairi once again broke his own program record after crossing the finish line in 1:56.16 to place out of a 29-runner field that consisted primarily of NCAA D-I and D-II competition. It topped his previous record mark of 1:56.96 that was set at the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by Oklahoma back on Apr. 4.
  • For Friday's 1500-meter event, Zairi and Jaden Rodriguez have posted the fastest times for MACU entering the race with Zairi posting a 4:02.90 and Rodriguez boasting a 4:04.47, both marks were set at the KT Woodman Classic hosted by Wichita State on Apr. 11.
  • Also on Friday, the Evangels will be competing in their first ever 10,000-meter race as Aidan Collins and Connor Gerth will represent MACU in the event. The longest distance event both Collins and Gerth competed in during the outdoor season has been the 5000-meter at the OBU Invitational, where Collins posted a 16:02.90 after tallying a 15:59.45 at the NCCAA Indoor National Championships. Meanwhile, Gerth ran a 16:33.56 in the 5000-meter at the OBU Invitational back on Mar. 28.
  • On Saturday, Zairi and Collin Seely will compete for MACU in the 800-meter run. On-top of Zairi owning the three-fastest times in MACU's record book, Seely possesses the fifth-fastest 800-meter time of 2:04.30 set at the OBU Invitational.
  • Rodriguez and Alexander Pebeahsy will represent the Evangels in Saturday's 5000-meter event to close out the championships. Rodriguez owns MACU's fastest 5k time of the outdoor season after running a 15:32.98 at the OBU Invitational. Rodriguez not only owns MACU's outdoor 5k record, but he also owns the indoor record after setting a 15:30.40 at the NCCAA Indoor Championships on Feb. 7. For Pebeahsy, he has set MACU's fourth-fastest 5k mark this season with a 16:07.26 at the OBU Invite and has posted stronger numbers on the outdoor circuit after posting a season-best indoor time of 16:22.52 at the Washburn Open on Jan. 31.
