Women’s Soccer Set to Host Hastings in Home Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Soccer captured a pair of road wins to open its 2025 season and will look to continue the momentum at home against another NAIA powerhouse in Hastings (Neb.) for a 1 pm kickoff on Saturday afternoon.

    • On MACU's road trip last week, junior forward Brae Baker scored braces in back-to-back outings, defeating Ottawa (Kan.) 5-1 on Aug. 21 followed by a 3-2 win on Aug. 23 over Baker (Kan.). Baker scored the winner for the Evangels in the 74th minute last Saturday afternoon, securing their second win of the season.
    • The last back-to-back brace scored by an Evangel was Kelsey Henry in the 2021 season in conference wins at Oklahoma City and Central Christian.
    • As a result, Baker was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week alongside teammate Cammy Hargrove, who was tabbed the SAC Defensive Player of the Week.
    • The Evangels are looking to continue to defend their home turf as they were unbeaten at the Dill Soccer Field during the 2024 season. MACU's last home loss came back on Sep. 30, 2023 against a Science & Arts squad that was receiving votes at the time in a 3-2 result.

    • Hastings opened its 2025 campaign at home in a 2-1 loss to Kansas Wesleyan.
    • After conceding within the first two minutes of the match, the Broncos fought back with an equalizer by Madison Rhodes in the 12th minute. However, Kansas Wesleyan found the winner in the 64th minute to spoil the home opener for Hastings.
    • The Broncos got back on-track with its first road match at Park (Mo.) on Wednesday, where they put three in the net to complete a dominant 3-0 win. The goal by Payton Tanner opened the scoring for Hastings in the 30th minute bfore Sofia Rabinovitz added a brace with goals in the 83rd and 89th minute to secure the first win of the season.
    • Hastings started sophomore goalkeeper Tatiana Villasenor against Park as she recorded four saves for the clean sheet victory.
    • Saturday's match marks the first meeting between the two sides. Both teams are receiving votes in the NAIA preseason poll with Hastings receiving nine and MACU eight after both teams captured their respective conference championships during the 2024 campaign.
