Women’s Soccer Seeking Bounce-Back at Kansas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off a tough home loss to a NAIA national powerhouse Hastings squad last Saturday, the Evangels will be looking to bounce back and stay unbeaten on the road on Wednesday night as the Evangels are preparing to face Kansas Wesleyan for a 6 p.m. kickoff in Salina, Kan.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 2-1
  • Last Match: Lost vs. (RV) Hastings (Kan.) – 3-2 – Aug. 30, 2025 – Dill Soccer Field
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Saturday's result against Hastings marked MACU's first home defeat since Sept. 30, 2023 when the Evangels suffered a 3-2 defeat to Science & Arts. The Evangels will be looking to clean up some loose ends from the loss, as one of the positives MACU took away from the match was it out-shot the Broncos 16-11 with an 8-7 lead in shots on-goal.
    • Much like last season, the Evangels may have found a star in the making in junior defender Abby Sonne like it did with Asley Baker and Brae Baker as late transfers. Just like the Baker sisters that transferred from NCAA D-II Oklahoma Baptist, Sonne is also an NCAA D-II transfer from Eckerd (Fla.) and in her second career start, scored MACU's first goal of the match.
    • Through the first three matches, Mid-America Christian has been strong in the attack, averaging 3.33 goals per game, which is on-pace to be the third-highest rate in a single season in program history. The Evangels are also attempting 19.7 shots per game, effectively scoring on 16.9 percent of those attempts while also currently posting their highest shots on-goal percentage at .644.

      • 1-0-1 W-L, 0.50 GAA, 5 Saves, .833 SV%, 1 SHO, 6 SF
  • Team Notes:
    • Kansas Wesleyan has put together some strong results through its first two matches of the season, picking up a 2-1 win at Hastings back on Aug. 23 before battling No. 18 Central Methodist to a 0-0 draw in its home-opener on Aug. 30.
    • Wednesday night's match will be a battle of offense against defense as the Coyotes are allowing only 0.50 goals per game and have impressively only allowed six shots on-game between the two contests against Hastings and Central Methodist.
    • While KWU features a lockdown defense, the Coyotes have struggled to generate much in the offensive attack, scoring just two goals on 19 shots with 13 of those attempts being on-frame. Emma Gervy and Talia Walsh have been the team's lone goal scorers so far this season while Isabella Galvan has been solid in-goal, conceding just one on six shots for a .833 save percentage.
    • Mid-America Christian is returning the home-and-home match at Kansas Wesleyan after competing at the Dill Soccer Field last season. In the match on Sept. 11, MACU was the aggressor on the offensive end, outshooting KWU 26-14, but the Evangels only mustered nine shots on-goal to five for Kansas Wesleyan as Brae Baker netted the equalizer in the 27th minutes just minutes after KWU's Walsh scored the go-ahead goal in the 23rd minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
