Volleyball Soars Over the Eagles in Straight Set Win

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Volleyball pulled out a dominant win in straight sets on Saturday afternoon over Southwestern Christian, finishing off the weekend with back-to-back victories inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

TOP PERFORMERS MATCH SUMMARY
  • Set One
    • MACU exploded out the gates, jumping to an 8-1 advantage with six kills with Casady McKinney and Alica Obusekova contributing two apiece.
    • The Evangels stayed on the front foot, stretching their lead to 19-5 after winning eight straight points as Karlee Siegfried had three kills and Marcela Nalin added two of her own to contribute to the red-hot MACU offense.
    • MACU finished the set with an Obusekova termination followed by a service ace from McKinney, bringing the first set to a close at 25-11 as the Evangels finished with 18 kills on a .405 hitting percentage.  
  • Set Two
    • The Eagles showed a stronger fight to start, trailing just 5-4 after consecutive kills from Kloe Booker-Searcy and Charlyne Depraz. However, the Evangel run came just before the midway point, winning six of the next seven points to extend the advantage to 11-5 off of consecutive Madi Traylor kills.
    • The Evangels continued to pull away after back-to-back aces from Ryley Bowden followed by a Seyi Atolagbe kill, giving MACU a 16-7 edge.
    • Atolagbe added three more kills to close out the set before Ava Johnson put the finishing punch on set point to complete the 25-12 win.
  • Set Three
    • Southwestern Christian opened the final set with a 6-4 edge reinforced by a Booker-Searcy kill. Bowden continued her stellar serving with two more aces, putting MACU back in-front 9-6.
    • Siegfried added an ace of her own and Johnson contributed two more terminations as the lead stretched to 16-10 in the Evangels' favor. A kill from Jovana Perovic stopped the run, but MACU went right back to business with another kill for Nalin making it 21-13.
    • Madison Lee had her first ace of the match followed by consecutive Nalin terminations with the final point coming from Johnson as her kill finished off the match at 25-16.
MATCH NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian was dominant in the attack, finishing with 43 kills to SCU's 18. The Evangels put together another outstanding defensive performance holding the Eagles to a .020 hitting percentage.
  • MACU finished with nine service errors as Ryley Bowden chipped in five and Karlee Siegfried added a pair.
  • Marcela Nalin led the MACU attacking efforts nine kills on a career-high .667 hitting percentage while Seyi Atolagbe added her nine kills on a .304 attack rate. Ava Johnson finished with a career-high seven kills on a .238 rate.
  • Casady McKinney continued to lead the distribution efforts with 31 assists and eight digs.
  • On the defensive side, Ryley Bowden had 12 digs to lead the back row while Kaetlen Schier added 11 shovels. Atolagbe led the blocking efforts with three total rejections while Nalin added two blocks.
  • MACU continued to stay hot against SCU, winning 13 of the last 14 matches, including five in a row.
