Women’s Soccer Opens Conference Play at Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Soccer returns to action after two weeks off as it opens Sooner Athletic Conference play against crosstown rival Oklahoma City on Saturday afternoon at the Brian Harvey Field for a 5 pm kickoff.

    • Mid-America Christian were defeated at home for the second time this season losing to No. 23 Columbia on Sept. 15 in its last outing. However, the Evangels remain undefeated on the road sitting at 4-0 while scoring 13 away goals.
    • MACU has shown great offensive production tallying 19 goals on the year, as Brae Baker leads the Evangels with six goals and Gladis Avalos adding five. Baker sits top five in the conference with six goals and second in shots with 38.
    • The Evangels had almost two full weeks off since they last saw game action heading into Saturday afternoon's match. The break came at a perfect time as it has allowed for a few injured players to make it back into the lineup headed into conference play.

    • The Stars enter conference play dominating major statistical values leading the SAC with 50 goals and allowing just three goals. OCU scored at least three goals in all but one game including two games scoring double digit goals.
    • Oklahoma City remains undefeated on the year with just one tie in its second game of the season at Houston-Victoria in a 1-1 game. The Stars put 11 goals on the board on 45 shots last game against Hesston, with seven second half goals and a hat trick from Tatum Tallal.  
    • Amelia Horsford leads the Stars in scoring with 10 goals including a hat trick vs Sterling (Kan.), and three braces against Texas A&M Victoria, Williams Baptist (Ark.), and Hesston.
    • Horsford and Yami Ponce sit first and second in SAC individual goal standings with 10 and nine goals in eight games. Kayleigh Haygood leads the conference with seven assists in eight games.
    • Junior goalkeeper Candela Blanco has tallied 16 saves in eight appearances. She leads the conference allowing the fewest goals against with three, .38 goals against average, and an impressive .842 save percentage.
    • The Evangels and Stars will be facing off for the 21st time as OCU holds the all-time record at 10-9-1. However, the recent form has favored MACU as the Evangels are unbeaten against the Stars in the last seven matches, winning the prior two matches in 1-0 fashion. MACU last saw defeat against OCU at home in a 2-0 game on Oct. 26, 2018.
