Women’s Soccer Set for Away Trip to Wayland Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Women's Soccer remains on the road to seek its first Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season against Wayland Baptist on Tuesday afternoon for a 4 pm kickoff.

  • Team Notes:
    • Wayland Baptist enters the contest 1-0 in conference play, winning on the road against Texas Wesleyan in a 1-0 game. The Pioneers outshot the Rams and found the winner in the 22nd minute through Gabriella Chapa for her first goal of the season.
    • WBU started the season 3-0, scoring multiple goals in each game. However, losses came quickly to close out non-conference play in three consecutive lopsided results to enter conference play at 3-3.
    • Ashley Perez leads the Pioneers in goal scoring with three goals on the season. She scored a brace against Southwest (N.M.) and a goal against Eastern New Mexico in the season opener. Camila Zavala has three assists leading WBU, including the assist to the game winner in the SAC opener against Texas Wesleyan.
    • Junior goalkeeper Ashley Lopez started the previous five matches entering this clash. She tallied 26 saves with 10 goals against on a .722 save percentage. Lopez sits fourth in SAC standings in saves despite only appearing in five games, four less than the three goalkeepers in front of her.
    • The Evangels and Pioneers will be facing off for the 22nd time as MACU holds the all-time record at 9-8-4. Mid-America Christian won the previous two meetings including last year's matchup in a 6-0 rout on Sept. 28, 2024, at the Dill Soccer Field.
