SEASON REPORT

  • Team Notes:
    • Wednesday night's match at Science & Arts was a defensive slugfest, but Mid-America Christian came up clutch when it needed to in each set to come away with a thrilling three-set sweep inside the USAO Fieldhouse.
    • One of the biggest factors in the win against the Drovers was MACU's ability to finish. When the Evangels lost to the Drovers last season, USAO won all three of its sets by three points or less while this year, MACU turned the tables on the Drovers by winning two of its three sets by a pair of points, which included making late runs in all three sets to pull it out.
    • While the Drovers were able to keep the reigning SAC Attacker of the Week Seyi Atolagbe in-check through the first two sets, holding the freshman to just four kills, the powerhouse middle came through in the clutch for MACU in the third set. Atolagbe tallied four kills in the set, including a pair of clutch game-tying kills that made it 23-23 and 24-24 before coming up with the match-point kill in extras to seal the 31-29 win.
    • After getting off to a rough start to the season, recording only 30 kills on a .067 hitting percentage, senior outside Alica Obusekova has started to find her stride over the last four matches. In that time frame, the Bratislava, Slovakia product as tallied 39 kills on a .286 hitting clip, hitting north of .220 in all four of those matches. Obusekova led the offensive charge against the Drovers with 10 kills on a .292 attack rate.

    • Through their first five matches of the season, the Tigers have been timid in the attack, posting the second-lowest hitting percentage in the SAC at .102 while ranking ninth in kills per set at 10.75. Despite the offensive struggles, Central Christian has been able to find some scoring in service, ranking fifth in the league at 1.81 aces per set.
    • Even though CCCK hasn't been able to generate much offense, the Tigers have been relatively solid on the defensive end, holding their opposition to only a .137 hitting percentage while their back row leads the conference in digs per set at 17.50.

  • Team Notes:
    • After getting off to an 0-4 start to the season, Langston has fared much better as of late, winning five of its last six matches, which includes a SAC opening 3-1 win over Central Christian inside C.F. Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
    • Heading into their match at USAO on Friday night, Langston is boasting the third-lowest hitting percentage in the conference at .135 while ranking second-to-last in kills per set at 10.34. While the Lions rank sixth in the conference in service at 1.77 aces per set, they have given up a lot of points back in serve receive as they rank last in reception errors with 67.
    • Even though Langston has not been the most effective in the attack, the Lions have made up for it with strong back row play, holding opponents to a .120 hitting percentage despite only averaging 1.2 blocks per set.
    • Freshman outside Ayanna Moore and senior middle Teia Woodson will lead the Lions attack with Moore leading the team with 2.71 kills per set while Woodson is boasting the highest hitting percentage at .241 while notching 2.14 terminations per set in her own right. • The Evangels will be seeking to keep its 15-match win streak against the Lions intact as MACU came away with a pair of three-set sweeps in last year's meetings. On Sept. 14, the Evangels scored a 25-18, 25-15, 25-20 win over the Lions inside the Gaulke before heading into C.F. Gayles on Oct. 17 and pulling away with the 25-20, 25-19, 25-11 victory.
