Volleyball Shines in SAC Home-Opening Sweep Over Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Volleyball opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a sweep on the road vs Science & Arts on Wednesday and extend its good play in its first SAC home match by running away with a commanding 3-0 victory Friday night over Central Christian inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

TOP PERFORMERS MATCH SUMMARY
  • Set One
    • Mid-America Christian opened with a dream start, exploding out the gate by taking a 13-1 lead, including 10 straight points while going a perfect 8-for-8 on attack attempts. Three of the first six kills belonged to Casady McKinney before the Evangels got their attackers going with Karlee Siegfried three kills to extend the run.
    • Central Christian tried to get back into the set with a pair of aces from Dylan Smith to cap a 4-0 run to close to 13-5. However, the relentless attack from MACU stretched its lead with kills from Seyi Atolagbe and Alica Obusekova before McKinney notched one more to cap a four-unanswered run of its own to make it 17-5.
    • The Evangels captured their largest lead of the set at 22-7 following a 5-1 run capped off on a Marcela Nalin termination before eventually closing out with a 25-11 win.
  • Set Two
    • MACU continued the scoring run in the second set, jumping to an early 8-1 lead with a pair of kills from Obusekova and Atolagbe. Ryley Bowden added her first ace of the match after being honored during the pregame for recording 100 career aces as an Evangel earlier in the season.
    • Going into the second half the set, the Evangels went on a massive nine-unanswered streak behind the serve of Sydney Martin, tallying an ace to go with kills apiece from Mia Benson, Nalin, and Ava Johnson while five CCCK attack errors set the score to 19-3.
    • Following back-to-back Tiger points, Johnson added a side-out kill with Atolagbe following before wrapping up the set with a 6-1 run finished off on another Atolagbe slam.
  • Set Three
    • The Tigers showed some fight in set three, keeping to within striking distance through the first 16 rallies with Sofia Brockmeyer tallying an ace to close to 9-7.
    • After back-to-back side-out scores, the Evangels went on a massive 9-1 run, including seven-unanswered finished off by consecutive Siegfried kills, setting the score to 19-9.
    • Even thought CCCK took two of the next three, MACU wrapped up the match by scoring five of the last six with McKinney notching an ace to end it at 25-12.
MATCH NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian was dominant in attack finishing with a .403 hitting percentage racking up 34 kills with only seven attack errors. The Evangels defense completely shut down the Tigers attack, holding CCCK to 11 kills on a season-low -.106 hitting clip.
  • The service line played a major factor in the result as MACU finished with 10 aces and only six errors while Central Christian recorded four aces and nine errors for a 19-10 scoring difference from the line.
  • Karlee Siegried led the MACU attacking efforts with seven kills on a .583 hitting percentage. Overall, the Evangels attack was extremely balanced with seven players recording a kill and three notching six kills apiece in Alica Obusekova, Seyi Atolagbe, and Casady McKinney.
  • Along with her six kills on a .455 hitting percentage, McKinney led the distribution efforts with 25 assists and five digs.
  • On the defensive side, Ryley Bowden had 13 digs to lead the back row while Kaetlen Schier added seven shovels. Mia Benson led the blocking efforts with four total rejections and Alica Obusekova added a pair.  
  • The result allowed MACU to improve to 17-1 all-time over Central Christian, making it five wins in a row and eight straight inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

  • Mid-America Christian will continue conference play this weekend as the Evangels host Langston Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. first serve inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
