MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Mid-America Christian had the perfect start to the match finding the back of the net in its first two shot attempts. Madison Chavez opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a stellar strike from outside the box finding the top right corner as Brae Baker played the flick to give Chavez the opening.
    • Just two minutes later, Maria Scopina would get her second goal of the season as she rose the highest to win the header off the corner kick put in by Liv Houlston.
    • The Evangels looked like they were scoring the next goal getting the next four shots off, but it was the Pilots who scored one back with Lina Regadane finding space inside the box and placed her shot right past the Evangel goalkeeper, Alba Vigo.
    • The goal ignited LSU Shreveport into the game as they pushed for an equalizer forcing Alba Vigo into a pair of saves to keep MACU in front.
    • The Evangels would restore their two-goal advantage as Deborah Silveira was brought down in the box and up stepped Gladis Avalos who buried the penalty kick into the bottom left corner.
    • Alba Vigo came up with two more great saves for the Evangels before the end of the first half.
  • Second Half
    • A relatively slow start to the second half for both sides until the Pilots found their second in the 69th minute through Jade Derks who took advantage of her breakaway in on goal.
    • The Evangels responded well with the next four shots putting two of them on goal forcing routine saves from LSUS goalkeeper Elena Lopez.
    • MACU held good spells of possession in the final 15 minutes of the match not allowing the Pilots to have any clear chances to equalize late.
MATCH NOTES
  • MACU held the total shots advantage over LSUS 16-13, but the Pilots managed an 8-7 shots on goal margin.
  • Gladis Avalos and Brae Baker led the Evangel attack once again with four shots a piece with Avalos' penalty kick in the first half, the goal that gives MACU the win.
  • A big night for Alba Vigo who finished with six saves as she had a busy afternoon in goal for the Evangels. This is a new season high for Vigo whose previous high came in the season opener against Ottawa (Kan.) on Aug. 21, where she notched five saves.
  • MACU extended the all-time record against LSUS to 3-1 with this victory on the road winning three games in a row against the Pilots after beating them 2-1 at the Dill Soccer Field a season ago, and 2-1 in Shreveport, La. back in 2010.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will return home and face the Generals of LSU Alexandria on Thursday afternoon Sep. 11, for a 3 pm kickoff at the Dill Soccer Field.
