Men’s Basketball Sets Sights on Science & Arts to Snap Skid

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Men's Basketball team will be seeking to snap its two-game losing streak on Martin Luther King Jr. Day down in Chickasha, Okla. this afternoon as the Evangels square off against Science & Arts at 4 p.m. inside the USAO Fieldhouse.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 12-5 (6-5 SAC)
  • Last Game: Lost at Texas Wesleyan – 69-64 – Jan. 17, 2026 – Fort Worth, Texas
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian put up a tough fight at Texas Wesleyan as it narrowly missed rallying from a 13-point second half deficit, cutting it to only a two-point game with 1:39 left on a Clay Baldwin three-pointer. However, the Evangels were unable to come p with a go-ahead score over the final minute-and-a-half as the Rams came away with the 69-64 win to hand MACU its second-straight defeat.
    • The Evangels posted their worst shooting performance as a team in the result, shooting a season-worst 35.6 percent (21-of-59) while knocking down a season-low 15.4 percent (4-for-26) from three-point range.
    • During the two-game losing streak, foul trouble has plagued the Evangels. In last Thursday's home defeat to No. 17 Nelson, the Evangels committed 27 personal fouls, their second-highest of the season and forcing MACU to play cautiously for most of the game. While MACU fared much better against TXWES with 21 fouls, the Evangels had a costly disqualification with Clance Crosby getting his fifth with 3:01 left, forcing MACU to play without its most impactful big down the stretch.
    • MACU is seeking to get some consistency back on the offensive end as the Evangels are coming off two of their three lowest scoring outputs of the season last week. The 81-67 loss to the Lions on Thursday was their third-lowest point total of the year while the 69-64 defeat to the Rams was their lowest total of the season.

  • Team Notes:
    • Despite putting up some tough fights over the last month, Science & Arts has struggled to find a winning product as the Drovers have lost their last seven games, starting with a 76-59 defeat to MACU back on Dec. 16 with their most recent loss coming in a 106-96 decision at No. 17 Nelson on Saturday.
    • USAO has been one of the most potent offensive teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference this season, averaging the second-most points per game (85.9), but rank only eighth in field goal percentage (44.8) and second-to-last in three-point shooting (31.7). While the Drovers lead the league in made free throws (330) and free throw attempts (489), Science & Arts is converting on the third-worst clip in the conference (67.5).
    • With the team being a high shot volume offense, it has also carried over on the defensive side as well as the Drovers are giving up the most points at 85.3 ppg while allowing the third-highest shooting clip (44.5) and second-highest three-point rate (37.8).
    • The Drovers are led by one of the top scorers and rebounders in the league in Mohand Ammad, who ranks third in the SAC in scoring (21.5 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.2 rpg).
    • In the two teams' last meeting on Dec. 16, Mid-America Christian held Science & Arts to a season-low in scoring inside the Gaulke Activity Center as the Evangels came away with the 76-59 win. A big factor in the result was MACU holding Ammad to only 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting, including 0-for-4 from three while forcing Jamouri McCalister into foul trouble, with the guard posting only seven points on 2-of-9 shooting over 17 minutes before fouling out.
